Just looking through these photos it occurred to me that they are "dust jacket" images. You know, the sort of thing that you see with writing all over them on book dust jackets. Not a single one of them stands up in it's own right as a good photo. I knew this when I was taking them simply because I didn't use a tripod or long lens (I don't own either at this stage).

But they are good "survey" photos that you take while you're looking for that special shot that sums up the whole area. Landscape photography is like that, isn't it. You have to be up early for the breaking sun or hang around waiting for the sunset, and capture the light paintings.

But the thing is that you probably have to find the right place then be there a few times to get that image. Here's one more that is heading in the right direction because it has a few things happening: the sun, the tree silhouette, the glow around the base of the tree, and the cattle. But it's a cropped image with some problems with softness and so on. I won't be able to get it again (exactly the same anyway), and I needed to be there with a tripod and a bigger lens.

Despite the digital revolution, you still have to take about 1000 shots to get a good one.

Well they all look pretty good to me. I've seen similar photos in photographic exhibitions that are like this. The trick appears to be to not show them as individual photos but to show them as a set with an associated theme, with a fancy frame and fancy price tag. Mind you a fancy price is needed because a fancy frame will set you back a bit unless you make the frames yourself

Yep agree 100%, it's being in the moment that makes all the difference.

Shouldn't that be, BECAUSE of the digital revolution, you CAN take about 1000 shots and eventually get a good one

Rossluck, thanks for all of these.

Our place is on the NSW Tablelands so we know and love morning mists but Qld has such a feeling of space.

I like the old gums in the first pics.

    Thanks.
