My son's new camera
My son bought a Cannon (450D I think) for his O/S trip after Xmas this week. Decided to have a go at some night shots down at the cliffs on Brisbane River to try it out. Not bad for his first shots, considering he has only ever had a cheapy pocket size auto everything, and no tripod

I love that Brisbane night scene. It makes you wish he'd had a tripod. The clouds are great. Keep goin'.

Nice shots. I have been tossing up a 500D for a while. Still have a EOS500 35mm that takes great shots, but no digital convenience. Tell the young un' to have a good trip.

He seems to do well at whatever he does. He has an IQ >180 (and knows it) and has just finished his full time degree in IT whilst working full time at an IT company , and topped his class . All this whilst living in a share house supporting and looking after himself in Brisbane. He also saved enough money to travel to USA and NZ on holidays for 6 weeks just after Xmas.
He was offered jobs at other companies after graduating, so his current employer offered him $65K + 2% of company profits (last year ~$2M) to stay - not bad for his first year out
Pretty proud of himNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

You obviously have a talent in understanding what makes a good image. I have been involved in photography ( another hobby) with photo clubs for many years, and the competition winners often had the most basic cameras.
Having said that, the 450D is an excellent camera that not only has very low noise from its sensor which helps in low light situations (like all Canon CMOS sensors), but is also well suited to action shots.
I think you can look forward to great photos from your sons's travels and I can't resist passing on a recommendation to always shoot with the maximum quality settings (largest file size.) Memory cards are cheap and shooting at anything less than the max defeats the whole purpose of a decent camera. Reduced quality images simply means that they will now be the same as a much cheaper camera.Last edited by TP1; 21st March 2010 at 12:57 PM. Reason: to make sense
