    Default Round 24 - A Dead Rubber

Assuming both Geelong and Collingwood continue their winning ways, round 24 will be essentially a dead rubber. How will the coaches play it? Will they throw in some wild cards to rest imortant players?
This game is worthy of being a Grand Final....... but also there is a chance it will be a very unexciting game as neither coach will want to risk injury to players when the result will have no influence on ladder position.

Anyone have any thoughts on how the game will pan out?

Potentially these two teams will be grand finalists and would be eager not to give too much away. Saying this both teams have seasoned players who desperately need game time and would like to expose all their best 22 to big game experience. Both Collingwood and Geelong will put close to their best on the paddock but won't be flogging themselves to get the 4 points. Yes, it's the pointy end of the season, however it's the following week which counts most.

Geelong will win, you have to keep the edge over your opponent.

Dont want that collingwood mob think they have one over us.

Don't confuse a fans belief in his team for team arrogance. Jim is correct, the way Geelong is travelling at the moment there is every chance that they will beat Collingwood in round 24 (although I hope not).

I believe Collingwood will finish on top with 21 wins, 1 loss and Geelong second with 20 wins and 2 losses. Both coaches would love a win to give a psychological advantage going in to the finals, but with eyes on the big prize I don't believe that they would risk injury to key players.

The big game for round 24 is going to be Carlton Vs. St.Kilda.

Geelong already have 2 losses so this doesn't make sense. At the end of the day though I think Collingwood's list is younger and fitter than Geelongs. Remember, we've forgotten Hawthorn and Carlton, BIG wildcards and both capable of beating both Collingwood and Geelong.

Sorry, you're right, I got the maths wrong , the bye confuses the hell out of me.
You're also right about Hawthorn and Carlton, both capable of creating an upset.

I thought you were a bit harsh on Jim though, his belief in Geelong does not make the Cats arrogant (although they may well be ).

Mick has already raised the issue of "reverse tanking". If he thinks he can gain an advantage, by playing "lesser" players, then don't be surprised if he does.

Whilst every coach would publicly say that they don't care who they play, you could almost guarantee that they would have a preference.

1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd in the first week, it may be advantageous to finish 2nd instead of 1st, depending on who may finish in 3rd and 4th spot.

Both teams can play kick to kick and call it a draw. So long as I can be busy with my tools don't care who wins Rd 24 Geelong v Collingwood.

Well it looks like tonights game is far from 'dead rubber'.

Both side fielding full strength sides, with Collingwood wanting to avenge their round 8 loss and Geelong wanting to remind everyone that they are as good if not better than the Pies.

A full dress rehearsal for the grand final? It should be, it would be a major shock if the two best sides of 2011 didn't play off for the silverware.

My tip (wish), the Pies in a close one.

It would seem Hawthorn are the dead rubber this weekend!

    Default That Big Margin?

    Hi Grumpy,
Well, yes you would be by now. Most likely wake up all Grumpy.
If collingwood were taking it easy, then they got what they deserved.
I suppose you knew that " The Bombers " beat Geelong but we didn't beat the pies.
I think that they can beat Carlton as well, & that would be a nice Turnup.
    Go Bombers

    Did not see that coming!

It was like watching 1st V's last. I don't know how to take this loss? It will either be a nice reality check for all the egos before the finals, or it could really damage their confidence.

Having said that, hats off to Geelong, they looked super slick.
