Not the Beach Boys? Wilson? Dead members. Siblings. Lovers?
There was a young boy called Wyatt
Who was awfully quiet
And then one day
He faded away
Because he overused White
Floorsanding in Canberra and Albury.....

Nam close Wilson is the clue. The dude over the fence in Home Improvement is Wilson Wilson.
Siblings = sisters in this case."Rotten to the Core"

Brian Wilson's daughters are in a group together but they haven't been around since the 70's.

That's Wilson Philips and no not them.
OK We have a band that has been around since the 70's with two sisters, still in the group as the only original members, surname Wilson."Rotten to the Core"

Ann and Nancy Wilson, core members of Heart.
Album cover of Dreamboat Annie fueled the lovers not sisters theory.
Took alot longer to get than I thought it would. (Considering my first effort lasted all of a few minutes.)
Your up Nam"Rotten to the Core"

I never got to see Stevie play live , but I did see Jimmi and the Tbirds play at the Middle hotel in Ferntree Gully .

At the age of 10 I took my mothers maiden name and slightly changed it, I also Anglicised one of my given names. I also created my first band at this age, the band consisted of myself and a friend from school on drums (*a sort of early White Stripes *).

My guitar style is neo-classical metal/power metal/heavy metal and I include Brian May, Steve Hackett and Ritchie Blackmore among my influences.

Sorry to interrupt GJ but regarding the Heart answer, I am pretty sure that Heart became wilson philips later on. I got their first album back in 1977 after these audiophile types I knew used to rave about the recording channel separation or some such, and the recording quality.
Back to your clues. Done time for steeling? Cryptic. Worked ina steel mill, a shipyard perhaps. I can only think of Billy Connoly. Lol. Then there is Phil Lynnot but he played bass. Nup I need another clue.prozac
