Thread: All the way around Aus

Made my way to Murray Bridge today calling in at a few backwater lakes and salt pans on the way.

Then met up with Kryn (KPs PensNmore) to check out his workshop.

The forecast for tomorrow is very hot so unfortunately the turning club has cancelled its meet . As I left Kryn did notice my trailer subframe was delaminating on one side , something I was made aware of back at 's , but forgot all about it . Kryn is a welder luckily, so we are going to have a go at fixing & strengthening it tomorrow

Seems that everywhere you go at the moment it is excessively hot. You will be wanting to get back home for some relief.

Yes looks like heat today and continuing next week, but typical of Feb I guess, at least Qld gets the rain to go with it

It's been $79 in Melb. I've rarely found that buying close to source has been cheaper. Fresher yes. It's all those cashed up gray nomads

Headed for Kryn's friend's house where he is currently working on his friend's trailer. Took a quick before pick of damage:

Kryn's didn't muck around, even though it was approaching 40C, once the trailer was jacked up and the wheel offn he dived straight under to clean of the thick galvanising and cut in the delamination in preparation

Next he stitch welded up the delamination before cleaning that up ready for the stiffening angle to be welded in. He tapered the angle corners to avoid flexural cracking in the future and did a cut out around the saddle bracket which was also welded up. Then I gave it a quick wire brush before giving a lick of gal paint to finish it.

Thats so much Kryn, quick and what looked easily done, but I know it would have taken me days with heaps of bird crap welds and re-welds etc etc. Certainly will save me from what could have been a future disaster.

Next, apart from a bit of shopping, I headed for Vitoria Harbour to veg out a bit and perhaps do a bit of fishing. This shot was taken from the lookout as I headed into town.

I hate to see anyone stuck in a town where they don't know anyone to get work done. I'd do the same for anyone passing through.

It's no wonder the RHS let go considering the length of those spring hangers and the weight you are carrying. Did you do both sides while you were at it?
You should be feeling more comfortable now that you are back near the water. Haven't been to Victor Harbour, but it looks nice.
Well done Kryn on the repairs.

As an aside, we've come out of Flinders R or Channel country twice with work on the CT needing doing. Can recommend Quorn Autoport. He's the SAA guy for the area and a straight-up guy.

Good to hear you enjoyed Little Dip CP. We did a day walk there.

I ended up buying fish and chips from the local store, beautiful fish, the lobster looked good but at $100/kg it was out of my range. I'll stay tonight as well then head for Murray Bridge in the morning to catch up with KBs PensNmore

Good to see you get some help with the trailer. If you want cray you gotta get it yourself. All the crayfish gets shipped out and so IF the local shops can get any it's dear as. No. The other side shows no sign of delamination plus LHS gets a beating due to shoulders. I will keep an eye on it though, and the hanger supports bolts too, metal on metal is not the best on rough roads.

Is it still at the mill upside down? Hope not, should be right side up now under cover. After levelling it you want to minimise the movement whilst drying and ensure it stays on its legs, so should be on firm founding in shed - yeh make more room

It's not RHS for the sub frame, it's 50X50X3 angle bolted to the main chassis that is 50X50X1.6 RHS. As Neil said, it's the shoulders on the roads that do the main damage, you would probably find the same with the shockers etc. on your vehicle. I know on our day centre bus, the shocker and tyre on the LHS are worn because of it.
The main thing is that he is now out of trouble.
