Can recommend this place in Mt G: Pine Country Caravan Park Quiet and grassy. The Blue Lake is striking when it's showing its colour.

Further up Robe is well worth a stop. Sea Vue CP has great views over the bay to the north.

Coorong bush sites we found a little disappointing; bare, limited views. But Goolwa has some interesting history and old buildings and the boat tour of the Coorong from there we really enjoyed. The pub on the south side of the main drag did good food cheap.

I'd recommend the coonawarra strip - the reds are great!

Ah. Yes; some fine drops in that region.

After Portland I headed off to check out the Petrified Forest, only to find they are not petrified trees (or remainders of) but limestone eroding away from a puddle working its way down. Also more views of windmills

Ok spent a day at Nelson and caught the river cruise up the Glenelg River to the Princess Margaret Rose Cave. Great cruise, well worth the $30, plus an extra $17.50 for the cave tour.

I knew about the steps down to the cave, but they forgot to tell me about the 300m steep walk up to the cave entrance from the river jetty . The cave was great though

What was very interesting was that when the cave was originally found, it was by climbing down this shaft, exploring with just a candle

After Nelson I made my way to Mt Gambier and visited the garden sinkhole and blue lake, plus various other small sights, just amazing scenery.

Then off to Tim Creeper's place at Dismal Swamp jus outside town. They have some great family cottages for people to stay in but of course I have my own set-up. Any members want a great weekender or week or so break the cottages look great, plus I'm sure he would give a forumite discount . Hot days but beautiful cool nights.

Been doing a bit of milling here, see https://www.woodworkforums.com/f132/m...3/#post1741909, plus checking out the local bush timbers. Tomorrow I'll hit the bandsaw to make up some blanks Tim will be selling from the Peppercorn, plus some beautiful red/orange Golden Wattle.

Following your trip and enjoying the photos.

I was going to mention the caves earlier but thought that your knees would pack it in. I also didn't know about the river and the jetty. When we visit the caves again, we'll have to visit Nelson.

I hope the fires down there haven't affected your travels.

Had a great time at Tim's, thanks for the hospitality mate , but it was time to go. I can't believe the trailer isn't stuffed full of timber, Tim did offer, but I can only carry so much.

I'm currently camped at Port MacDonnell. I wanted to dive Piccaninnie Ponds, but dive shop closed , so hoepfully open tomorrow to get details on costs etc. It is a registered cave site so I will probably need another dive ticket that will add to the costs. You already have to pay for permit to dive, then dive hire costs as all my gear is still on GC.

After the heat wave of the past few days, the cold wind is a nice change, good for sleeping . Had a great test run this afternoon
