Great Ocean Walk
Hi all!,
I just got back from completing The Great Ocean Walk in Victoria from Apollo Bay to Glenample (the Twelve Apostles).
We had a great time and the daily temperature for walking was ideal at this time of the year. Even the day that it drizzled all day was okay.
Some bits of the track were very slippery because of the rain. Thanks to my wife for suggesting I put in the Walking Poles. I have never used them before, but there would definitely have been a few spills in the slippery mud without them. They are great and a huge assistance with the many uphills and with the slippery downhills.
We had to wade a few shallow creeks which meant stripping off shoes , socks and trousers.
We spent 5 days to complete approximately 100kms.
I can heartily recommend this trek to anyone interested. Some sections were pretty hard and steep. My son said he thought he was being chased by a panting pedophile!
Cheers,
Steck

Sounds like a good adventure Steve. Was it a guided walk, or did you do it on your own in your own time?

Nice one. I did the continuation of that - the Great South West walk solo from Portland to Nelson a couple of months ago. I highly recommend it.

We didn't go on an organised walk. We set up our own camp at Bimby park as a base and just did the walk on our own. There is a service that for $500 will drop you off and pick you up at the end of each day's walking. It's a lot of $ but the drop off a car at the finish and drive back to the start gets a bit tedious. (I opted for cheap and tedious!)
SJM : Have you got any more info on the Great South West Walk? Sounds like a good next step!Cheers,
Steck
