    Default Off to the Races

Woohoo, off to the Birdsville Races next month. Doing a 5 week caravan trip, going up through Griffith and Bourke to Charleville. Then on to Quilpie where we will be spending a couple of days and going on the mail run. Then Windorah, Betoota and finally Birdsville where we will stay for a week.
On the way home we will be going through Nockatunga, Thargominda, Paddabilla Bore, Boolba, ST. George and staying 3 or 4 nights at Lightning Ridge. We then head home going through Forbes.
Depending on our data plan and reception I'll post photo's, otherwise I'll post photo's when I get home.

    Round trip ~5300Klm

Sounds like a great trip GJ, look forward to your ever excellent photos.

We were in Lightning Ridge last year, if you are staying in a caravan park I can recommend the Opal, all roomy drive through sites, top class facilities and you can walk to the thermal pool down the road.

Don't know if you particularly want to visit Forbes, but we did the Newell a few times now and it is not that exciting.

This year we did Dubbo-Wellington-Molong-Cowra-Young-Wagga Wagga but the other way around.

There is a great free camp on the northern outskirts of Wagga. Grenfell is worth a detour as well.

    Do you use Wikicamps?

Forbes is just a stop on the way home. Nothing to see here, move along.

Yes, have wikicamps and camps 8.

Can recommend a detour via Cowra - lovely little place and the Japanese Gardens are a delight to photograph.

Thanks for the info Fred, however by the time we've finished at Lightning Ridge we'll be ready to get home and not feeling like any side trips.

Did much the same trip last year. Son is just north of St George at Surat. Didn't go across to Birdsville, but was a great trip, you will enjoy it.

Last time in St George, had a great feed at the Australian Hotel and when you are in Lightining Ridge, check out Bevins Cactus Gardens, and the Opals of course.

Shame you didn't leave a month later, or stay a month longer, I will be heading up to Pilliga on my way back home from Canberra mid Oct. The free camp at Pilliga Hot Springs is well worth the stop.

At least the weather should be perfect for you at the moment. Collecting any timber?

    Hope you enjoyed the trip.

Last time we were there was in 1984 with our 1980 Toyota FJ55 on our way to Lawn Hill Gorge, via Boulia and Mt Isa.

    Enjoy yourself.
