Default Going to Tasmania-what to see?

I am going to Tasmania for a couple of weeks holiday fun. Are there any places/people in Tasmania that might be especially interesting to a person who likes tools and timber? I have been seeing Tasmania on maps for nearly 60 years and I believe the locals speak English but apart from that I know little about it.
My age is still less than my number of posts

There are plenty of galleries, it's a few years since I was there, but there were a few around Salamanca place in Hobart, and the Design Centre Tasmania in Launceston is worth seeing.
The wooden boat school at Huonville(?) is good, and there are a number of timber places around Geeveston. On the west coast around Straun there are also sawmills and galleries.
That's just a few, but there is no shortage of things you'll enjoy.

    See everything you can!!

The Wall in the Wilderness at Derwent Bridge , the galleries in Hobart and Launceston as well as the smaller places like Huonville. There will be plenty of tourist leaflets to guide you.

Go to the west coast and have a look around Strachan. The drive interesting to say the least!

Try Cradle Mountain and crater Lake.

Lots of luck!! You will really enjoy this wonderful island.

If you are a bit interested in art or don't mind seeing an amazing building then a visit to MONA (Museum of old and new art) at Berridale in Hobart is a must. A whole day can be spent there quite easily.

    do you like walking?

there's lots of 1/4, 1/2 and full day walks you can do either exploring historic towns or the landscape.

    Hi Chook.

If you don't see 'Wall in the Wilderness' and you are a woodie, you will be missing a highlight you will never forget. Look it up on the internerd. It's terrific.

    Best regards.

    G'day chook,
My wife and I found Tassie a great place to visit.
For some wood and tools of general types on display, I recall those themes in; the tanning bark mill museum, Copping colonial collection, Port Arthur displays and the transport museum at Hobart.

    At Inveresk (Launceston), the museum at the former rail workshops have one of my favorite blacksmith 'shops, there is also preserved paint/ sign writing shop- but I can't remember any thing 'wood';

The Maritime museum in the middle of Hobart was good, only a few tools though, as I recall.
As others have hinted at above, there is a thriving Craftsman woodie scene in Tassie, think boats, Huon pine etc.
... such as at Richmond (Tas); The Woodcraft Shop

    Tell us how you go,
