    I looked at the link. I see that you have a choice of 80 grit and 180 grit.
    Q: What stage in your sharpening process is this for?
    Are you repairing bashed-up edges (80) or cleaning up (180) for finer grits?

    I do all my wood carving edges freehand but I can also appreciate the value of the CBN approach for long straight edges.

    Just don't ram the edge into the wheel. I can predict the rise in friction/heat with the cutting effect of CBN.
    Most grinders spin 3750 rpm and really, 1/2 that is plenty.

    I'm sorry for not replying yesterday but other things got in the way. I changed the wheel flanges back to the pressed originals with the white wheel and there was not much difference . It would be acceptable.

    What are the thoughts on running a CBN wheel on a full speed 8" grinder ?
    Also is the radius of a 6" wheel too small for grinding plane blades ?

    If full speed, and planning on grinding plane blades or bench chisels, I'd rather get a 6" grinder and 180 grit CBN wheel. As far as I can recall (someone will correct me), the smaller wheel will have a similar surface speed to a half-speed 8" grinder.

    Thanks Derek, I always appreciate your input.
    I am new to grinding and are convinced that CBN is the way to go, I have a 6" 500watt grinder.
    The radius of grind with a 6" wheel would not be a problem I gather? When one considers if using a white wheel, the diameter would be reducing and the radius becoming tighter, where as the CBN would remain the same.
