Which grits? I have three plates: 40 microns, 10 microns, and 0.5 microns. This is used for lapping old blades, taking them to a high finish.

However, if you just used one grit for everything, try 1.0 micron.

Sooon as somebody mentions honing, I want to know what they use!
Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is really soft so I have to be mindful of the quality of the gouge edges.
All I've learned is that my final step, the honing on some sort of strop, is the line between just really sharp
and carving sharp. 15? years of Chromium Oxide mixed with some Aluminum Oxide, told was 0.5 micron for the CrOx and 0.25 for the AlOx.
Just bought some straight AlOx but have yet to try it out.

Our hunting season ended today, visibility is crappy in falling snow, maybe -2C.
Guess my wood carving season is about to begin again.
