Diamond sharpening block and non slip holder
Carpentry teacher put me onto this 2 sided diamond sharpening unit (with not slip holder) this week. 400 and 1000 grit. Quite heavy at 1.4 kg. 200mm x 63mm. On sale from Gas Weld and distributed by Toolex. Only $70.

I gave this one a try from ebay, very similar but 70mm wide. Doesn't come with holder but I already had one so no problem.
Works okay but mine was not very flat along it's length, very obvious rocking when a straight edge is placed on top (400 side) and corresponding dip on the 1000 side, not too bad across though.

I guess if you go to Gasweld you may be able to check for flatness before you buy, no such luck from ebay.
Steven.

Hi Steven
How flat are the tops, and which was most out of flat - can you place a feeler gauge under a straight edge?

Mine is dead flat on both sides. Just checked it with a feeler gauge and straight edge. Way less than 0.038mm (0.0015"). Can't see light under it.

Firstly apologies for the crappy pics. My computer would not detect the SD card from my camera so I've had to use my phone.
Feeler guage measured 0.15mm in the center of the #1000 side using my steel ruler as a straight edge.
I stuck some Wet & Dry onto a piece of flat stone I use to flatten my plane soles (its an offcut of stone bench top and is flat according to the same ruler straight edge shown in the pics). The witness marks at each end can clearly be seen.
It seems I got a dud!!
