Talking about flatness, which would you put your money on a Veritas ground lapping plate or an Atoma diamond plate for flatness? The Veritas is a cast iron surface ground plate and the Atoma is an aluminium plate with a diamond sheet glued to it with a reputation for being very flat.

Knowing very little on the subject, I would think that you could make make them equally flat with enough effort, but cast iron might be more stable through temperature changes than aluminum.
