    Default Planer / Thicknesser blades

When I bought my GMC 12" machine, the replacement knives were about $20 a set, now I don't seem able to get them for under $50 anywhere near where I live, so I am thinking of getting a set of TCT knives, which are $150 a set.
I do a lot of work with Jarrah, and the HSS + 18% carbide knives do not last too long before needing sharpening, which costs $38 a set.

So, I need to know if the TCT blades would be an economic solution, and if one of these would extend the time between professional sharpening of the TCT knives.

My first version was one constructed like those on ebay. It worked but the bevel angle it put on there wasn't quiet correct. That's why I went for mark 2. Mine is not as fancy as the Veritas but it does the job. Two big pieces of mild steel...nice and heavy.

Now you are putting ideas in my head
Would you care to elaborate at all?
