I have a Tormek 1200 which is very similar. I bought it years ago.
It depends on your expectations. If you think the tool will be ready to go straight off the wheel you may be disappointed. If you want to grind out a nick then it is fine, but you will still end up doing hand honing for a "perfect" edge.

Scheppach is the go
I have a Tiger 2000. I needed to buy the Tormek truing tool, as Scheppach don't have one available in Oz, and the wheel was certainly not true enough across the surface. (I also bought the Tormek dressing stone, as the Scheppach one only comes with other stuff that I don't need.) That aside, I'm delighted with the thing - does a great job on chisels.

Got a 2500 and am learning how to use it.
Jet wetgrinder jigs also fit the mout bar as do Tormek. The quality of the Jet ain't brilliant but the stuff is much cheaper than the Tormeks and still usable.
I would say though that to get the best out of the system you need to treat both planes that form the edge and that means eg with gouges honing is necessary as well.Cheers, Ern

One of the big diffs btwn the Tormek and the Scheppach (at least the model I have) is the manual.
The Tormek is very detailed; the S. is simply not enough for a newbie to learn how to use the wetgrinder properly.
I believe you can buy the Tormek manual from the US online shop (though they may not ship to Oz.) Otherwise find someone who has a Tormek and has registered it; they can download the most recent manual which has a detailed section on using the fingernail grind jig.Cheers, Ern
