Yes Tungsten Carbide. No TC will gums up your wheel, and can damage the CBN coating, TC should only be sharpened on diamond.

Diamond wheels are so cheap and can be readily mounted on the side of a CBN wheel so I don't see a need to use CBN for TC.

To de-gum your CBN wheel just lightly grind some HSS on it.

Those are quite impressive tool rests on the grinder, Bob - did you make them yourself?

Have to disagree Bob, TC is not recommended at anytime for CBN. As you say though, diamond a very cheap these days anyway, I have one on my Tormek wet grind.

The gospel like arguments for, diamond not being not suitable for steel, and CBN not suitable for TC seems to be unravelling.

Diamond cutting wheels for cutting steel are now available in Bunnings see Metal Cutting Disks
CBN tool inserts are now being used to turn TC stock!
For production grinding of Steel and TC materials there are now combination CBN and diamond wheels (CDX wheels).
