Tormek T4 drive wheel melted
I was grinding a new bevel on an old chisel that I had been given; someone had put a large back bevel on it in the distant past and I was removing it. The chisel was about an inch wide and I was pushing reasonably firmly when all of a sudden I could smell melted plastic and the middle of the drive wheel where it attaches to the shaft was fried (see picture). Has anyone managed to do this before with a T4?
Cheers Jarrod

I have replaced two drive wheels on a 2006, when they cracked. The current one is reinforced (by myself) with carbon fibre and resin.

Thanks Derek,
It is good to see that others have also experienced problems with the drive wheel. I might have to get a few new ones and be a bit more gentle with them in future.

The large back bevel suggests to me that the chisel had been converted into a wood carver's "stop" chisel.
It's used to prevent long run-out splits when carving up to a vertical edge.
They get utilized for rough outline but little more.
I have a 1/8 Pfeil and made a 1/12 from a Narex 1/2" skew.
Jointed that on a high speed wheel than revised a 10 degree bevel on each side.
The bushing on the Tormek wheel must really be dumbed down for the design.
