Default 150 mm mesh disc price!!!

    Hi all

I bought a Mirka deros 650 cv last Friday from Werribee power tools and am looking for abrasive disc.

I found some youtube videos on the Wurth abrasive disc below.

Because of these videos I contacted my neighbor who works as a saleman for wurth Australia, for the price of 8 different grids check the link below

    https://eshop.wurth.com.au/Product-c...2522%257D%255D

His boss let him do the cash sale for me so he gave me the prices for all 8 different grids
    $485.31 plus gst
    $533.82
    Plus $12.00 delivery

The question, IS THIS PRICE FAIR? Should i go ahead with this deal?? as i never buy abrasive mesh before and this is a big chunk of money.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hoey

8 grits, boxes of 50, comparable to Mirka. Big initial investment, but buying smaller numbers is not viable for the retailer.

I use the Mirka abrasives and am very happy with the duty cycle of the abrasives. Good cutting in the rougher grits and fine polishing in the finer grits and they bloody last, if you are not a ham fisted oath, like me!

    I get myAbranet here: https://www.malleeagencies.com.au/collections/abranet

I am not sure how the price compares. The Abranet are great.

^^ Awesome link Derek, thank you.

Another place that sells the Abranet is Best Abrasives: https://www.bestabrasives.com.au/col...irka-abrasives

I note they sell packs of 10, and mixed packs. Whilst your price is pretty good, Hoey, it just depends on whether you need 50 of each grit - something you'd have to figure out

I found Mirka Abranet 150mm Sanding Discs in Dandenong sales mirka abranet is similar price to the wurth if buying 5_9 boxes for $60.54 plus gst.

Hopefully I can make the right decision for which one to buy by the end of the day.

I got given a 150mm Festool mesh disc to try. Loved it on my little Makita 125mm palm sander but the price made my eyes water! But then I found "Diabalo" mesh discs for a much more realistic price. They come with a velcro adapter pad that goes between the sander and the new disc. Magic! Are they as good ad the Festool disc? Perhaps not quite but it's early days yet.

Is there anyone here using Sianet mesh? How is it compares to abranet?

There are only 6 different grits of sianet from the sandpapernan.
Can i use a system of 80-120-180-240-320-400 grits to finish wood?

I find that the cheapest Abranet disc if buying more than 5 boxes is from BC Coatings in Dandenong Victoria Mirka Abranet 150mm Sanding Discs

I am still haven't decided what brand mesh to buy yet

Bosch have also started to supply a mesh disc as well but I don't know if it available here yet or given their marketing record recently if it will ever be. https://www.axminster.co.uk/bosch-ne...150mm-ax976630

I'm using Abranet (awesome!) Plus some disk's from Smirdex from an auto body shop https://www.autorepairsdirect.com.au...lcro-disc.html

They regularly have them for $41 for a 50 pack.

They are pretty good too! Maybe the Abranet might be marginally better, but I would certainly rebut them again

edit: I thought to add, I'm a big fan of automotive products. Not the crap from places like SuperCheap or Repco (et al) but the professional suppliers. They are amazing for finishes, paints, products for sanding/polishing and sandpaper. They also have an amazing array of sanders at half the price of woodworking tools and are, in my opinion, better.

e.g. the Mirka Ceros and Deros were targeted to autobody shops due to hand fatigue and weight.... Festool do the same.

Here are a few suppliers I use regularly:

I've signed up for an account .

Perhaps your neighbour would be happy to do a group buy? $54 a box sounds reasonable.

They would certainly be worth a crack...

I forgot to mention I'm also a huge fan of Abranet. There is a vast pile of them here

Wow! Where do you see that $54 from? I would jump for that

it's $68+ including shipping from my first post that's why i am hesitating to buy and come here asking questions

During today we were texting each other.(neighbor and me)
I told him that wurth net perfect does not have ceramic andi was looking at Sianet from the sandpapernan, he sent photo of different product which has ceramic! That was sandpaper disc! Cheap stuff. At this point I lost interest in buying wurth net perfect.

I believe that sianet has ceramic and aluminum oxdide would cut faster and last longer. Please someone corrects me.

Anyway earlier he was saying i only pay 7 boxes and get the 8th for free becos we're neighbors. He also confirmed on the price is $68+for a box of 50.

I said i'll get back to him cos i need more time to think.

What's the price that you see after signed up to Wurth ? If its $54 online and he is telling $68 he can sell that to someone else.

Geez I hate that this forum isnt working properly in HTTPS. Just had a huge post that I typed up and it evaporated. Jesus H.

Anyway - succinctly - Wurth is similar to Lincoln Sentry, Mirotone and Blackwoods. They sell only to business account holders. I can see the sense in that, but it does have some drawbacks.

My biz is legit, not some front. Love woodwork as an occupation, much better than IT (see the video I just posted).

The Abranet are fantastic disks. Almost indestructible. I bought heaps off FenceFurniture (thanks dude!) during a G.B. and they seem to last and last. I do a lot of mangy crappy work restoring, plus smooth MDF and finishing of nitro/poly/epoxy on boxes. These disks are great!

The new ones from Smirdex (terrible name) are very good. Its a Greek company and they have a nice video showing off their plant in Greece. Nice operation, everyone seems into it. Ive used them for a few jobs as a trial and can say they are very good too.

I've all but abandoned the great pile of Festool disks in favour of these new mesh disks.

The dust collection of mesh is much better, even on the Festool ROS125 and ETS150/3. I'm currently mainly using a Mirka Ceros, which I seriously love.... but they are expensive. If you have a compressor, consider one of the rotary sanders from the auto repair suppliers. They are just as good as a Mirka.... not better, but as good. If you've LOTS of sanding to do, especially prep sanding (such as table tops) consider the air powered ones. They go like CRAZY. With an 80 or 120 grit they are stunning.

Mesh is great. Paper not so. I was bloody tired of swapping off Festools paper based disks as the edges become ragged. The inner 2/3rd's are fine, but once that edge goes they scratch and spit off chunks. The backing pad cops it too. With the mesh, I honestly cant recall destroying a single one yet. I'll have to go check the Stash of Used Ones to look at them closely..... as I said, indestructible.

Last Sunday night, i ordered 4 boxes of Sianet from the sandpapernan then ordered a box of mixed abranet mesh and some goodies from Timberbits.

Next Monday i got shipping email from Timberbits and got the parcel today to Timberbits.

Still hear nothing from the sandpapernan

Don't know if i ever going to use these incra Rules to make anything but it's good to have, me think.

I use my 150 Incra T rule all the time, the rest stay in the drawer and never see the light of day. Very occasionally like once a year I use the 300mm version of the same rule.
