    Default Router Plates

I am looking at building a routing table attachment to fit onto my jet supersaw. I have a number of questions as to the best option(s):
    1. Has anybody used the Veritas Router Base Plate? or any other bought base plate for that matter.
    2. Has anybody used perspex/polycarbonate plates? If so where can you get it in Melbourne area? or
    3. Has anybody used aluminium plate and made their own?
    4. What are the problems and ptifalls of using the above materials?

I am interested in learning other peoples' experiences before I take the plunge - pun intended. At present I intend using a Makita 3600BR router.

I look forward to any and all responses.

I just bought plain 1/2" (12.75mm) polycarbonate. With the benefit of hindsight 3/8" (10mm) would have been plenty.

Just look up plastics suppliers in the Yellow Pages.

Hi, i first used a piece of 2mm steel for my first plate, but quickly found that if you are to be using some large dia bits ( like the 90mm raised panel bits ) that you soon notice that there is a huge gap between the lil bits and your plate. I now am using one of the Woodpecker Phenolic plates with the twist in rings, and find it great to use, and wish i had of bought it first up instead of spending all the time making the steel one. For the money its great value if you look at the quality of finish. I would buy anothor in a heart beat

I have the Veritas Base Plate http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...000,51208&ap=1

It's great value, easy to install, impossible to stuff up. (I had a minor fitting issue, but am the only one I know who has.)

They will even replace the plate for nix if you don't get it right!

Before that I had the router configured to sit flush with the table without any base plate whatsoever:http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ead.php?t=9235

I haven't seen anything else that compares cost/ease of installation wise, I couldn't make my own for less.

SilentC also has one and last I heard was equally happy.

    Cheers,
    P

I have a phenolic insert that I bought through Jesada (no longer operational)
These are thin, strong, stable, are predrilled for the bit and have 2 outer rings that can be removed for larger bits.

Carbatec sell a similar version made from ABS plastic for $45 - worth a look

Smile Router base plate for router table.

Got mine from Carbatec in Brisbane, so probably have them in Melbourne.
    It
came from the U.S. but don't remember the brand name. Works just fine.

    Default router plate

    Thank you all,
It looks like it might be $30.00 US + P&H from Lee Valley, against $45.00? from Carbatec Melbourne (next holiday!!!!) or $90.00 from Woodpeckers. I would hate to go to Carbatec and not buy anything - it wouldn't be worth the trip. Then again with the work load I've got I might wait until the Melbourne Working with Wood Show in Oct and hope for the best.

    Ditto!

Mixed in with an engineered router table top , also from Woodpeckers (great service by the way), first rate!

    Cheers!
