Default Dewalt spares and pricing - bit of a rant

I have been buying spares for my tools for nigh on 40 years. Since the internet came along I have always followed this procedure.
    - Go the ereplacementparts or similar and get a part number and US price.
    - ring the manufacturer in OZ (Makita, Bosch etc) to check if the part number is OK or has been superseded and if they have it in stock- they won't give a price.
    - take the US price, divide it by 0.75c and I usually have the price within a couple of dollars
    - check price through my local hardware, Bunnies etc and order part. As I said, price is usually within a couple of dollars

I wanted a part for my Dewalt thicknesser so when I was at the WWshow I asked the guys on the Dewalt stand where to buy spare parts. Answer was "any reseller".

    So did my usual;
    - part number and price from ereplacementparts - $9.48 and actual USA Dewalt spare parts site $8.32. Looking at about $11.50 to $13 AU.
    - check price through Bunnies and after three phone calls to say Dewalt said part number was wrong, then emailing me a diagram and me picking the part which actually had the original part number I gave them, they came back with a price - $22.99 and it was in stock. I asked why the high price and they said ring Dewalt which I did. Part comes from Switzerland they tell me.
They tell me Dewalt have a retail spare parts outlet in Victoria so ring them which I do - $18.58.
Why so dear I ask - part comes from Switzerland and, I quote "we have been told to say that part of the pricing is shipping and storage and that adds to the cost". I said "Dewalt USA and ereplacementparts have shipping and storage costs and look at their prices" which they did.
"we'll get back to you" .

    Still waiting.

Why worry about a couple of dollars? It's the cost of other more expensive spares like rollers, chains, sprockets etc that I may need down the track.

BTW When I asked Bunnies re the $4.40 odd higher price they quoted vs the retail price, their answer was "bring in the quote and we'll beat it by 10%"

If it's out of warranty they aren't going to fix it for free and will charge you more than any local tool shop would so seems a bit silly to drive around chasing after Bosch. I have multiple Bosch tools, and can't say I have had any problems with them

Hot-dog!!! Just went to ereplacementparts on Lappas recommendation above... My coffee maker needs a new seal ring. Its tiny, but leaks. May as well do all 6 while Im at it as its very well used! Here $22 EACH plus $10.80 post... there $1.99

Post is a bit more at $17.99, but the cost of 6 new seals kills the price here.

Consumer Guarantees apply to everything sold in Australia under $40K.
So you still have rights as a purchaser independent of any warranty.
    https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/co...mer-guarantees
In basic terms, a product should last as long as it should be expected to.
However, you need to take it back to your retailer.
If the retailer/manufacturer won't help (many still don't understand) then you can make a complaint but need to have followed these steps:

I think you'll find step 3 is usually more (a lot more) expensive than a new tool.

If its Bosch green and its out of warranty the concept is that it would be cheaper to replace it. By the time someone spent 2 hours on the problem and replaced a part it would be as much or more than a new one.
