    Default Jointer adjustment help needed

I have been unable to get my 8" Powermatic jointer adjusted correctly since I moved a few months ago.

I loosen all the bolts on the infeed table - raise the table. Both tables line up and look good with the straight edge.

When I retighten the bolts the infeed table moves. The the front infeed table corner near the fence is about 1-2mm low.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Default How I adjusted my Jointer

    Scally,
I have an old 6" jointer (brand unknown). It took me ages to adjust it. Here are a few things that worked for me.
First cleaned all the gunge and accumulated crud out of the dovetail slides that the tables go up and down on.
Next a got it all level.
As it is the front bed that adjusts I tightened it and left it alone and like you the whole thing was suddenly out of true. I loosened the rear bed and put shims (made out of hacksaw blade) between the bed and the base. By trial and error I got it flat.
Now days my only problem is that the front bed works loose and if I forget to check my 1/2mm pass turns out to be 2 mm.
I googled adjusting jointers and got heaps of good info too!!
    Best of luck.

    Bids.

    Thanks Bids

That sounds like a serious bit of work.

They are great machines when they are working properly. It is good being able to flick a switch and trim a fraction of a mm off a board or panel and have it flat and square.

That is why it has been frustrating with mine now out of whack and not being able to sort out the right way to adjust it.

I have left it alone for the moment in the hope that a cooler head will work out the right method.

It might have some crud jammed in the slides. I will have a better look.
I downloaded a manual and a read a few different articles about jointers too.

Mine seems to have more grub screws than the manual? That also has me a bit confused.
