Metcash's annual report suggests their hardware business -- Mitre10, Home Timber and Hardware, plus many other businesses -- is a mix of wholly owned, joint owned and independent franchised retailers.
It's a similar story with their food retailing, some Franklin stores are wholly owned, some are not.

Thought I would give it a google
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitre_10

sounds like it is all of the above

I have a mate who is a wholesale supplier to them and he said it was hard for him to do business as he pretty much had to door knock each store to show his merchandise and try and get them to stock it.
They have access to 1000’s of items via head office and then choose what they would like on their shelves

It would appear that the said stores are more attuned to their local market's needs and also some items could be purchased at a cheaper rate from the manufacturer/importer than through head office.

No they still order through head office and he gets paid for all his merchandise from head office but he needs to face to face the individual stores and coerce them to carry his products on their shelves in order for him to make the sales whereas a Bunnings type setup carries mostly the same lines everywhere and when he deals with them they just buy X thousand items off him and they go to their distribution warehouse.

Yes I was referring to how my mate works because I asked him if he ends up with accounts with stores all over the place and he said his product all goes through HO but yes my local Mitre10 store who focuses on supplying tradies will get you anything you want and provide you with great service too.

look at this through a distributor's eyes. Which offers the better return?
the BORG model -- "sell" the product to one lot of management and you get your stuff stocked across the country. Requires a relatively small sales team.
the alternative -- "sell" the product to a very large number of retailers plus management in head office. Requires a much larger sales team.

It's little wonder that distributors are attracted to the BORG model

Regardless of who is selling what I championed bosch power tool for decades against the almost universal preference for makita. I don't anymore. I've had too many breakdowns, too many bad design elements. Yes the blue stuff is better than the green, but I just wouldn't bother. I love my ros but I can't even get a vacuum attachment for it. I can't find contact details for the australian distributor. They are just hopeless.

Makita have become problematic also. They make good stuff and they make cheap stuff and it's hard to tell them apart. At least they do some after sales service.

I've got 2 green bosch jigsaws, one I've had for decades the other was $5 at a garage sale. They are ok for what they are. I have 18V hitachi drill and impact driver. If I were buying anew jigsaw I'd get a hitachi skin. But that doesn't help you. I don't know what I'd buy in corded... probably hitachi.

I have got to say the Bosch Blue stuff is not what it used to be either. I wouldn’t avoid buying it but certainly don’t rank it above the other run of the mill brands

I agree with the sentiment in the previous two posts on the variable quality of stuff on the market at present. Thanks for those.
As I have tools from Makita, Hitachi, Bosch, Metabo and some of the unmentionables there is no brand loyalty. I get what I think (hope) will give a the quality of work I want for a reasonable price.
With that in mind it seems the best chance of getting a straight square cut with a jigsaw would be with a Bosch GST 160, based on head to head tests and user reviews. Unfortunately this is not on the market yet in Aus but has been available in Europe and Britain for several years.
I have been wondering if the stocks of the current GST 140 might be getting low and the updated version might come on the market soon. So far nobody has suggested this might be the case.

Getting a "Straight Square" cut with a jigsaw has as much or more to do with the blade and material than the jigsaw.

For straight square cuts invest in a table saw or circular saw and track (or straight edge).

Bought this this morning. I wanted it before the amazon ban so now it's lifted I jumped. I don't know how good it is but I've got the hitachi drill and driver kit and neither of my bosch greens have orbital nor universal blade compatibility. $135AU shipped.

Yesterday they had the drill driver kit for $99US. Today it's $177US. I really hate amazons variable pricing.

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-KC18D...achi+18v+combo

    They have individual kits:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-DS18D...achi+18v+combo

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-WH18D...achi+18v+combo

You would be better off buying an individual kit and a skin:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-DS18D...achi+18v+drill

    Or brushless:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-DS18D...achi+18v+drill

    https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-WH18D...pact+brushless

Hitachi 12V kit drill, impact driver, torch 2 batteries $69US plus $28.91 shipping. THAT's cheap! Probably $140AU landed. I've got the old nicad 12v drill and it's a beautiful tool.
