Hitachi 12V kit drill, impact driver, torch 2 batteries $69US plus $28.91 shipping. THAT's cheap! Probably $140AU landed. I've got the old nicad 12v drill and it's a beautiful tool.

if you buy the kit do you just buy a 240v charger locally?

    Excellent question.

The chargers are expensive, the hitachi are about $100. There are replicas for makita

    BUT

If you get a 110V charger with your kit you just buy a small transformer. They draw about 60W so even a little 100W is adequate. As it happens I had a 200W transformer I bought years ago so I just plug it into that.

    Some examples from ebay

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100W-Con...4WmQ:rk:1:pf:0

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200W-Ste...qeyD:rk:1:pf:0

It's worth buying a transformer because it opens up the opportunity to use all sorts of overseas stuff.

Wow, that looks good. I used to think that it was my skills that were the problem. Appears that's only a part of the problem! But the price, I wouldn't have thought it possible that there was a tool that made Festool look cheap. Still, it has started me thinking.....

    Hi

Mafell sure make some seriously interesting "hand tools" like electric planers up to 350 mm - ie 14 inches.
    https://www.timbertools.com/Planers/

But their pricing does make Festool look like an el cheapo! For example, for a jigsaw, price points might be:
    • $100 - Ryobi
    • $400 - Bosch Blue
    • $600 - Festool
    • $1,000 - Mafell.

And, unfortunately, or fortunately, there is no Mafell sales outlet in Australia.

    Cheers

Thanks in anticipation, I am not seeking confirmation etc of my choice but would like anybody in "the know" to inform me of what Bosch may be up to - as follows.
There is very little stock about (in Canberra) of this or the other Bosch Blue jigsaw models. One major supplier is no longer supporting Bosch and another major supplier (I'm reluctant to give names) is still a Bosch partner but has been requested to return stock.
The latter supplier informed me that they have no stock GST 140 jigsaw and it is no longer available, although it is still on the Bosch Aust website and one is at Total Tools according to website.
This makes me wonder if some new models coming onto the market here. With this in mind, I checked to see what is available in Europe, including Germany, as this is the obvious place where things should be up to date. There is no GST 140 but a GST 160 which is an improved model. I get the impression this model has been available in Europe for a long time, probably years! (EDIT: 4 years)
Seems Aust may have a superseded model at a premium price.
The question is - Will Bosch bring out a new range of stock before Christmas. Hopefully at attractive pricing.

An update - the following was received from Bosch on 3 December
    "Thank you for your email.

We currently have the GST 150 CE and BCE. We do not have any information yet if the GST 160 will be available in Australia.

You can click the link below to see the ranges of our Jigsaw.

    https://www.bosch-pt.com.au/au/en/jigsaws-101353-ocs-c/

    Cheers"

Within a few days of receiving this, the Bosch GST 160 CE appeared on their website. No sign of the rest of the range, GST 160BCE & GST 90, though.

All the best for festive season and NY

Bosch Australia have NFI - a complete waste of space.

I had a similar experience when they brought out the "Glide" dropsaws, which were getting rave reviews overseas. "We currently have no plans to bring these into Australia"....then 4 weeks later they appeared. Call me cynical, but I assume they just want to clear stocks of the older/crappier products while they still can?

me thinks it more likely that Bosch Australia's left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

I was once not a Bosch hater. Then I tried to connect my Bosch 125-150 AVE ROS to a vacuum.

Bosch Australia are so terribly unhelpful, it's almost unbelievable. Calling their number for an adapter results in them first pointing me to the wrong adapter (a funnel type that is clearly the wrong thing), to then saying the actual adapter (that is available elsewhere in the world) doesn't exist. When I told them the part number and that I could buy it from Amazon, the attitude was they don't have it and they're never going to get that part in, so go suck eggs. So I asked, well then how do I connect my sander to a vacuum or dust extractor? Well, you can buy a third party solution. What third party solution? No idea, just a third party solution. But wait, why don't you buy the Bosch dust extractor that has fittings that let you connect the hose directly to the sander? Except that even if I was inclined to do that, I haven't found anyone selling Bosch dust extractors in Australia.

Do I sound like I'm ranting? Yes, I probably am. I was considering a Bosch mitre saw as well (the glide system IS awesome), but really, if this is the support one can expect, I would rather put my money elsewhere. It just boggles the mind - it's not like I want the part for free, I'll give you money for it! During the research for the vacuum adapter, I found that this particular ROS has an absolutely huge range of accessories - different stiffness backing pads, foam pads for polishing, different papers, mesh type papers, it has accessories that rival what's available for Festool sanders. But Bosch Australia are all sitting on their collective thumbs.

Edit: Don't get me wrong though, the 125-150 AVE is an amazing sander, with I think no rival in it's price range, just the Australian branch of Bosch is just so bad.

    Default Its a Call Centre

For all those who have bad experiences attempting to deal with Bosch Australia, the real problem is that you have not been talking to Bosch Australia!

Bosch value your custom so highly that it is almost certain that they have outsourced their "customer services" to a call centre. They don't have to worry about impact on reputation as most of their competitors have done the same.

In the call centres the supervisors, armed with computers that log staff activities to the second, are constantly harassing their staff to answer and "satisfy" as many customers as possible in the shortest time frame. The computers count the number and length of calls, but are ignorant of customer service.

Was planning to pick one of these up on Friday as my Ryobi POS ROS battery connections are failing. You've given me second thoughts about buying Bosch. Their website tells me there isn't a dealer for their accessories within a 100 k's of Brizzy. Sad such an iconic brand is flushing their reputation away for a few bucks saved on ignorant call centre operators.

The Bosch ROS is fantastic. I just ordered the part from Amazon. It's expensive for what it is, but it does work well.

And if you don't have a vacuum hooked up this thing sprays dust absolutely everywhere.

The thing that p&**es you off about Bosch is that the vacuum adaptor in question is included in the USA kit as it’s manditory regarding dust extraction.
There is an early thread on here regarding my dealings with BOSCH re the ROS and that adaptor.
Years ago I worked for a company that was a BOSCH automotive equipment and parts distributor. They always knew best and would not listen to their distributors, the reason we stopped selling their equipment.

I'll agree with that. It would also be cheaper for them to ship the little adapter rather than that totally useless collector/filter thing that it comes with.

The person I spoke to was definitely from the Philippines. So yes, certainly not local

Well this is what really annoys me, the ROS itself is really good, the ergonomics, sanding capability, having a 150mm backing pad included - these things are fantastic. I also managed to drop it twice onto my garage floor and it's still going no issues (no, I'm not normally so abusive to my tools), so the build quality is there. Just the after sales support is terrible and infuriating.
