'Tis indeed a big question you ask Wyld One. there has been much discussion here in a previous thread on this very subject.
Seems that general consensus is Makita, Hitachi, Milwauke, Panasoic. More grunt and longer lasting LI Ion batteries are the go but are also quite a bit more expensive. Still for you, there is some tax deductability.

Gday Wyld,
I've used and owned Makita powertools for nearly 30 years. Makita make good reliable tools for both the home handyman and the trade.
I've also used and owned Dewalt and Black and Decker Industrial powertools. These tools have been used for the last 16 years for both business and home use and have never let me down.
Just recently I've been in the market for an update on most of my powertools. While most of what I had still worked reasonable well, the need to update was obvious when 2 of the tools died and being so old the spare parts were just unavailable.
After much research in the available brands and technology available today, I chose the Bosch Professional range to do the update with. I looked at all the other brands before purchasing and while there was one thing or another that put me off the other brands, the Bosch brand was able to fullfill my needs perfectly.
You'll find that the question you've asked will get all sorts of answers. Some folks swear by one brands and wouldnt touch the rest.
I would suggest that you read all the threads on this forum about powertools then go and talk to a few of the tools shops such as Total Tools or Just Tools. While you are there actually pick up some of the tools and have a play with them to familiarise yourself with them. Also be aware that some of the stores will push a particular brand if they have a special on, doesnt mean its the best tool for you.
Hope this helps you,
Ross.
