Dear Carl,
Going by the paint-colour, I reckon it's a generic that's been painted to order, "stickered-up", and imported as either a "Sherwood" (read Timbecon), or a TTD (read TradeTools Direct). My money's on the latter, seeing as all that Timbecon aren't over here, but TradeTools are.
With the motor up at an angle like that for double-bevelling, it surely can't be all that old. Maybe if you drive over to TradeTools over there at Coopers Plains, and plonk it on the counter, one of the counter-staff might recognise it.
Only trouble is, recognising it is one thing - getting spares for a generic is altogether another...
Good Luck,
Batpig.

its a big basturd of a saw and evrything works well on it so it would be a shame to chuck it away.
i wil go and see trade tools when i get a chance. its a bit big to plonk on teh counter but ill take it and get teh to come and have a look at it.
tehre is a label on the motor that says 250 mm miter saw and one on teh blade gard that says 12" power saw. it has a 12" blade so its a bit strage.
if i can get it apart i may even be able to get a new gear cut for it. ill see what happens

Carl, if you can strip it down, there is a fair chance that the problem will be in the pinion cut onto the end of the motor armature shaft as a lot of the no name guys don't bother with hardening them due to the cost of regrinding the teeth to finish afterwoods. They just run them against a fairly soft, often diecast gear and hope that the thing doesn't get used enough to come under warranty . One jam to lock the blade and the pinion, driven gear or both are history

It's a matter of achieving the required gear ratio in the minimum space. Armature shaft is probably 10 -12mm dia so a 5:1 reduction with the cut pinion needs a driven of about 40-50mm diameter. To use a mounted cog as the driver gear and pass the shaft through it, the cog needs to be at least twice the shaft diameter, so the driven gear increases proportionately, as does the housing to accomodate it. This eats into the depth of cut available for a given blade size.

Hi, the hole body and saw looks identical to the Makita Ls1013

It looks a LOT like the ones that Timbecon were importing a few years ago, and is quite likely a copy of the Makita, at least externally. After all, why spend effort designing your own machine when you can just 'borrow' one & copy it? As you suggest, if you can get it apart you can probably find someone with -some- spares that can be adapted to fit, just as long as it isn't the motor shaft that has stripped.

Yes indeedy Bsr - if it's a clone of a Mak and it's orange, it will be a "Sherwood" from Timbecon. Still wont be any better in the parts situation (unless they're junkpiling the returns over there out the back...) I wonder if the internals are cloned of the Mak too? If so, you might be able to get a cog from Makita that will go straight onto the armature shaft. You might have to buy the two gears as a set, but it would be worth it (even if it does cost you more than what you paid for the saw...)
Good Luck,
Batpig.

If this is the same saw, here's the parts list and the current prices for such (in Euro)
Hope this helps.

where can i get it? i asume it would have to be orderd in so no refund if its wrong.
i may be able to get one cut at an engeneering joint.

Sorry Carl, I had't cottoned on to the bevel drive as I had assumed the whole head was inclined in the pic (looked at a smallish image on screen, 9 inch laptop). If the bevel pinion on the shaft is OK, then replacing the bevel driven gear should be viable. If need be I would probably opt for replacing the driven bevel and the final drive shaft as a set (Mak) rather than trying to get a bevel cut to suit the existing final drive shaft.
Designing, planning, fabricating and heattreating a one off bevel gear could cost as much as replacing the whole saw with a M branded one. That is the sort of job that is done in large runs to spread the development costs over a lot of units. If the gear was mostly compatable, but say had a slight difference in bore size for the shaft, it might be viable to have a shop tweek the shaft to suit.
