Default Broken guard on Ryobi EMS 1825 SCL saw

Hi folks. I'm in a bit of a hole, and hope someone can help or advise! The plastic guard on the Sliding Compound mitre Ryobi EMS 1825 SCL saw I have been loaned has broken. I've been trying to get a replacement, but Ryobi Aus no longer have stock and the two parts suppliers I've tracked down don't have any of this part either.

    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance.

    James

PS: Hope this is the right forum and a permitted Q, I couldn't see otherwise when I looked. Cheers.

I too have a broken one of these...in my case the bloke I loaned it to broke it. When I did the research it appears to be a common failing as a result of bad design...

And nope, no support from Ryobi for parts for this...which annoys me...I use mine CAREFULLY without the guard...and only I use it...Like to buy a replacement, but still cuts well and accurately so hard to justify..

I have a small Bosch router my wife bought me second hand about 18 years ago and a few months ago I got a new switch for it for under $10.00. Thats an extreme example but surely manufacturers should have parts for a while...

Thanks David, that helps to know! I don't think I was a careless or abusive user, and the thing 'just' broke, officer. If it were mine I could probably make up a replacement guard, but it was a loan, so I've got to try and return it in as loaned condition - VERY frustrating.
