Lightbulb I Want to buy a Skilsaw AND is circularsaws.net.au DODGY?

    Two Questions Really.

I want to buy a worm drive circular saw. and have pretty much settled on this, the SKILSAW SPT77WML-01. I want a worm drive saw because I hate motors mounted on the LHS of hand tools and this constantly stacks up well in reviews. But where can I get one? I'm in country Vic so it has to be a chain or online store.

That leads me to my next question about what looks to me, like a somewhat suspicious online seller. This saw is available for a suspiciously good price at circularsaws.net.au. But the website looks suspect to me. Has anyone bought anything there?
    My concerns:
    • No 'about' info. In fact the website lacks everything I would expect including a secure payment gateway.
    • No contact details of any type or method. I mean how would you contact them for a problem?
    • The business name does not appear to be registered.

    Big G,

if you put something in your basket on this site (like the saw) then go to checkout it will redirect you to the ‘real’ site that is selling the tool. That is to say the site you mention just acts as a place to generate interest and to make a commission from your purchase. I tried this by putting the Skil saw in the shopping basket then going to checkout. I got a message that said ‘we are checking for best price” then the page redirected to Amazon.

There are a lot of these sites around that try to suck people in by appearing to be authoritative specialists but are really only collecting affiliate referral commissions.

I think that that saw is a 110V unit. The voltage is not specified but if it is a 230V unit it's power is claimed as 4.5 HP which I think is a bit generous.

Good point. Very likely as the site redirects to Amazon’s US site.

You'll be extremely lucky (insert the word "improbably" here) to find a 240v version. As far as I'm aware, these tools simply aren't made in International standard voltage.

I haven’t tried that style of saw but my initial thought is that the handles are a long way back on the saw rather than over it like most saws. This would change your traditional stance when using a saw somewhat, it may be fine to use though
My corded saws are all LH motor but my cordless Makita is RH. I am right handed and are comfortable with either side although if the battery saw was bigger and required two hand operation I would prefer LH motor.

Apart from cheap supermarket version, I have not seen a trade quality Skilsaw sold here since the late 70’s

If you have suspicions, I think there are a couple of clues.
The site in .net.au rather than .com or preferred .com.au. The other clue is that although the blade size is 7 1/4", the weight is given as 11.5 lbs rather than 11lbs, 6oz or metric 5.2 kgs.

The above for me rings bells that the saw is a USA type.
    Proceed with Caution.
