Broke My 20yr old Makita Planer
I hope the following experience helps someone as careless as me.
Recently did a Western Qld hardwood retaining wall and was puting little 45 deg bevel on the top of the 8"x 3" posts when the planer went over the edge and grabbed a big handful of ironbark.
Result - wrecked the TC blades and grips - they are replaceable - but more importantly broke the main frame of the planer around the planer drum bearings - result huge vibrations and one stuffed planer.
Quote for new planer main body - about $90
About to go buy a new planer - thinks -might ring a powertool repairer on the off-chance he might have an old frame lying around.
YES was the answer - $20
Transferred all my original bits to the new/old main body but did replace a couple of bearings that were due to be replaced anyway- voila - a planer just like I always had.
I know it ain't rocket science, but sure saved a bit of dough.
Hope this might help someone
Cheers,
Ned

What a bummer eh, at least you were able to salvage it for a few dollars as opposed to some big dollars for a new one
Cheers
