Default Cordless circular saw - lhs or rhs blade ?

Hi. I want to buy a cordless circular saw. I already own Makita Li-ion tools so it will be a Makita skin that I’m after.

I think these two are in the price bracket

    https://www.makita.com.au/products/p...m-circular-saw
    And
    https://www.makita.com.au/products/p...m-circular-saw

I don’t really understand what makes these two tools different but one thing I can see is that one has the blade on the left hand side and the other on the right.

Is there a reason for this ?

I’m right handed. I will use this saw mostly for jobs like breaking down sheet goods and trimming doors to length. That makes me think for a right hander then saw with blade on right wii be better because when running across sheet goods etc the majority of the saw will be supported as its travelling on the main stock, not the offcut (which is soon to fall to the ground).

I also think I may use it as a DIY tracksaw, perhapsmaking a track out of something like plywood and not being too focused on accuracy but more on convenience.

Can anyone provide advice on this. Is there any reason I should chose one of these saws over another please?

Ps. It’s essentially diy work, not pro building.

    Cheers
    Arron

No idea of the reason but my Milwaukee one had the blade on the left hand side (same side as my body if using right handed) and I found that an issue mostly when using a speed square to cross cut a stud or sleeper as the saw had minimal support on the blade side.

No idea why, but most early cordless saws were cack-handed. Now most manufacturers make both so you can choose which one to pick. Tip: unless your a lefty, DON’T buy a LH saw.

The LH ones were a boon to sou’paws as they finally had a tool that was suited to their dominant hand.

    I am right handed.
I have two 18v Makita saws, the older one being brushed but both are with the blade on the LHS. I also have 4 other corded saws ( 3 of them Makita and an AEG) and they are all RH blade.
Personally it makes no difference to me and adapt without even thinking about it, to be honest I didn’t even realise the battery saw was LHS when I first got it.
The big difference with the battery saws is they are light and nimble and you mostly operate them single handed so as a right hander it is actually easier to operate with the blade on the LHS as you can see where you are cutting without standing over the saw. Whereas a corded saws is usually heavier and more aggressive and you hold it with two hands which naturally positions your stance over the saw and it is easier to see your cut with the RH blade.
I wasn’t even aware they do a RH blade version, I haven’t seen them at the tool shops.
