Thumbs down Delta in the hands of Ryobi ???????

A strong rumour circulating on the USA boards that the parent of Ryobi may be looking to take over Delta, and that the Delta parent is keen to unload it, as it doesn't fit the strategic vision of the future. Only a rumour at this stage but worth keeping an eye on. A number of the posters there are already declaring that they have bought their last Delta machine if it turns out to be true. Makes you wonder if the folks at Ryobi really know how their brand is perceived in the real world.

Seems the parent company has confirmed they are looking to sell off both their Delta and Porter Cable businesses. Bosch, Makita & Hitachi have been mentioned as possible buyers.

Interesting to see that Ryobi may be after a more upmarket label! Also interesting is the comment about real world perceptions. I have bought several Ryobi tools over the years- some (such as the table saw) are junk while others are excellent. I guess there must be variants on what "real world" constitutes otherwise Ryobi would have gone bust years ago instead of being of the market leaders for power tools. Please - no flames about this.... the debate on cheap versus value for money etc have been done to death in various boards on this forum

    cheers

No flames here but "market leader".....surely you jest. Ryobi is capitalised at US$163M and Hitachi for example is capitalised at US$2,500M. Of course both make more than power tools.

Perhaps they do, what better way to improve your image.
