    Default New Electrical Bushes

I've just been told by Ryobi that they no longer produce the electrical bushes for my 4 year old power drill... what a crock! How can they no longer be producing something as basic as bushes for an item thats only a few years old? Its not like I'm looking for bushes for my 20 year+ old power drill!

We really do live in a throw-away society.

So, is it possible to bodge a set of bushes together? Its only the carbon part that's worn, so maybe I could solder a new carbon block onto the existing spring/fixture? Or do I need to buy a new drill (definitely NOT a Ryobi thought, they've blown it, no more Ryobi tools for me!)

It's possible to get another brush to fit, by grinding the carbon part down. If you can find a set of brushes that have a compatible spring and end and with a carbon brush that's larger then you're good to go.

The other option is to look at the world market. It is quite possible that you can buy these brushes in another country maybe even Australia. What is the model number of your drill?

Hi Mick, I notice your in Kuranda; I'm just down the road at Speewah!

I have one of the bushes in the car now, next time I'm somewhere/anywhere that sells them I was planning on seeing if they can match it (ish), and then grinding/twisting/bodging as need be.. I'll also spend a bit of time on the web and see if they are available overseas (thanks Mat)... its all just a tad frustrating, the drills not really that big a deal, its not like its a fab, masonry busting job. But still, not bothering to make bushes after only a few years is just plan bad business (IMHO)

Try Cairns power tool service for a closeish match on the brush.

Ooops, I used to get a lot of work done by them, I guess it's no longer a "service". Sorry, don't know where else to recomend.

Do you take their word for it. I would go direct to Ryobi to check. You never know what old stock they may have lying around especially if you can speak with their service or spare parts people directly.

Most quality powertool repair shops have access to after market brushes they should be able to order a matching brush ,or as previously suggested file down something to size

check with your local, Consumer affairs many electrical items are required to have spares available for 5yrs, if not they will have to replace the item or refund your money
