Fein multitool
I have recently bought a Fein Multitool partly in response to addictive toolitis and partly for a an old floorboard replacement job. The tool and concept are brilliant and especially suited to the delicate task of cutting across single floorboards to remove a damaged section but NOT cut into the floorboards either side.
The floorboard job has proceeded beautifully but the circular woodcutting blade and nail cutting blades that came with the basic kit have predicatably broken and/or worn out.
"Simple" I hear you say, "buy new ones" .......
Well, the replacement 75mm circular blade was $65 and 3 universal spade-like blades were $80 for 3!
I was surprised for a number of reasons but mostly because, when I bought the kit, there was another more comprehensive kit available that had many more blades but was (from memory) 'only' about $200 dearer. I wish I had known then what I know now!
As google is my friend, I came across a US website for Fitzall blades. These blades are made to suit virtually all brands of multitool and are about 10% of the Fein replacement price!
I ordered about 20 different types of blades for a total of $130US including postage and they were posted today. I'll let you know how they go.

Please do. I too love my Fein Multimaster, but balk at the pricey replacement blades.
Quality blades at a discount price would be great.

I was using my Fein today and reminded myself once again to look for some cheaper blades. I'll be interested to hear how you go with them too.

My good wife bought me my Fein about 10 years ago. When she told me what she paid I was horrified. ($550) After I settled down, after the shock, and began to use the dear little tool I was hooked.
The blades are sharpenable with a small saw file but you have to hold it in a metal work vice to support it while you file. The steel is hard but does come up OK.
I picked up some blades for $45 (I think)on Ebay. They were the full range as is supplied initially. Performance compared to Fein branded.....can't tell the difference. I mainly cut timber or plaster with mine. They are a great machine just priceyJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

The Blades.
Hi All,
I bought the Ozito Multi tool, most likely not up to the quality of the Fein, but what I was going to say was Bunnings have Replacement Blades for both Ozito, & Bosch.
Bosch had a few more Blades, but a little dearer than the Ozito Blades. OZ, $20 ?
Maybe you could take the Fein with you to see if they would fit.
One heck of a Price drop to the genuine ones.Last edited by issatree; 16th April 2012 at 02:53 AM. Reason: spelling.

You can purchase OSHLUN blades to fit the Fein from Amazon. I know that some members on the forum have used this brand of dado blades in the past and were happy with it. I used my Fein on the weekend for the umpteenth time. What a gem of a tool. I am going to order some of blades from the above mentioned brand in the near future. I hope they are good. Note that some package combinations will not ship to OZ but there is enough that is available. Even the Fein brand is half the price we pay here.

Had a look at the Fitzall site. Looks promising as well.

I recall looking at the ozito blades. I THINK they fit both the bosch and fein.
As others have said it would be most helpful to get reviews of the alternative bits and what fits what.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

The price of the blades has long been an issue and one reason I never bought one as handy as it is. A source of blades at the right price would change that, are you listening Mr Fein?

HI All,
A few years ago I worked in the flooring industry, your grouch about blade cost was relevant then , as it is now .
After some research , I found that a local saw doctor could in fact re-sharpen the flat / square face blades for a fraction of the price of a new blade.
The round blades at that time were not an issue as the tradies all used the 25mm square face blades, but I believe that it would be possible to do them as well.
A hint for cutting nails etc , DON'T, the machine oscillation is too fast and the blades get over heated and loose their temper, if you have too cut nails , there is a specific blade for metal , it looks similar to a hacksaw blade with the wavy edge, use this blade and if your machine has variable speed , set for the lowest speed, and add alittle wd40 as you cut.
Jeff
PS> I also worked for FEIN as a sales rep , so have some knowledge of the tools.

Great points Jeff, a lot of of people have been switching blades for pricing, tooltechnic (festool)
systems also brings in some blades to suite the multitool market under the WSE brand, they are made in Germany & of an extremely high standard, there are videos on YouTube.com just search WSE blades & they will come up

I suspect that now Feins patent on this multitool has run out and every manufacturer is now selling their own version, the tool will become a lot more common and the prices of blades will start to drop with volume sold.
It may take another year for cheap blades but once the volume gets up, more companies will start making competitively priced blades
