We also get ripped off in the Uk. Kapex is £1074 in the UK, in the USA £810. We are a lot closer to Germany than America are..

John, welcome to the forum.
Of your price 16.7% is vat (£179), so on a head to head basis you should be comparing £810 with pre-tax £895, and that's hardly a ripoff. The price of a Kapex 120 here is £1230 inc 10% tax so the pre-tax price is £1118. You can't blame Festool for your 20% VAT.
If the prices in Oz were similar to yours then this thread would never have started.

Just had a quick squiz at my Kapex. The compliance plate states 240v~50Hz, and also states CE. Is there an Elec-Tech-Head out there that can comment on any differences, if any at all, that there may be in European compliance and Australian compliance? I strongly suspect that the units are identical.

hi brett.
i am no techy. but when i immigrated to australia from northern ireland. i brought a few power tools with me. in northern ireland we use the same voltage as the u.k. (240 volt).
the tools worked perfectly......until they got stolen.
so u.k. 240 volt tools will work perfectly here in australia.
(i realise that some u.k. constructions sites use 110 volts-but thats another story altogether).
if the u.s. had 240 volts system, i can guarantee you we would not be having this conversation, and this thread would not exist.
people would vote with their feet, or in this case, with their fingertips.
