I don't know if you have purchased or still deciding, but if you go down the track Ian has suggested, you might like to consider the DeWalt fixed base router mentioned earlier by bsrlee. I bought the combination version just before Xmas and have been pleased with it. 1 1/2 HP so a little more powerful than the laminate trimmers. I bought from Sydney Tools the combination version and I think the cost was about $350 (included a free 7 1/4 circular saw too but that is another story), but it seems to have risen to $415. It appears to be cheaper direct than through other Ebay sellers.

This is another listing on Ebay which describes the fixed base machine only with an 8mm collet (mine is a 6mm).

However, it does come from India (may be an issue, I don't know), it is not clear if it comes with two collets and if you wanted to have two machines the price is getting up there. Just a suggestion for consideration.

"Summary for back shed executive board meeting:
Lami trimmer is out. So it's Bosch GOF 1600 plus the MRF01 base for $700 or the US Dewalt DW618 plus transformer for about A$650. If you go deluxe and get two routers (one for pins one for dovetails), the Bosch GOF 1600 option is $1400, the DW618 + transformer option is about A$1000."

Hi folks, has anyone mounted the MRF01 fixed base under-table? Does it come with a "T wrench" that can be used to micro adjust from top of the table? If not, can another tool be used for this purpose i.e. is there even a micro adjustment point? There is a purpose made under table mount but that is very hard to get anywhere, and of course you can never use that as a fixed base.

    Cheers

Yes, I have the Bosch fixed base mounted under my table. It does have a hex T-wrench with it, and it does have the facility to do fine adjustments from above or from below the table. I find I have to undo the clamp that fixes the motor in the base to do height adjustments, then clamp it up again. Getting the motor out to put it into the plunge router can be a bit fiddly if I am unsighted (well, dah!). But the router is such a nice machine, I am happy to put up with it. I bought a quick release chuck for it so I just have to use a ball end allen key to change bits, much easier than fiddling with spanners. There's one outfit in the US that makes specific chucks for different models/manufacturers, I don't remember the name of the gadget.

Yep. I just mounted a GOF 1600 under table with an MRF01 based (which I bought from Amazon US). It works perfectly.
This video explains everything you need to know about the setup BOSCH GMF1600 Router Review (Including Comprehensive Overview, Specification and Setup) - YouTube

I'm really happy with this. I've put it under a cast iron top (baladonia/timbecon) with an aluminium router plate. It was easier than I thought it would be to drill the mounting plate and get everything deadnuts perfect.

Micro-adjusting the height from above the table with the included hex wrench is great. Sure, a Jessem router lift is probably better, but the GOF1600 absolutely does the job, plus I was very happy to save the $$$ and avoid sinking loads of money into something that isn't essential for my needs.

I reckon it's a pretty nifty setup. Router is well made, really nice to use, and because it takes 10 seconds to change the motor from router table to plunge base, I really don't need dedicated routers for each operation. Happy owner.

Bosch has really grown on me. I'm not a brand loyal kinda guy. I buy from all brands, but lately have found myself owning a fair big of Bosch Blue, and I'm liking it!
