Sounds ok to me. I have the 250mm SCMS bought at Christmas for $299 and am quite happy with it. $399 would be a bit steep for a GMC CMS but at $179 How can you go wrong.

    Alright guys here's the deal.

The GMC that was reduced to $179 features look like only to be a more powerful motor and bigger cutting area.
I can get a smaller one that does the same stuff for about $100.
The main use it would get would be the cutting of wood for a gazebo.
Do you think I would have a use for the bigger one and would a smaller one be ok for what i want to do.

My thought process is coloured by the fact that I'm in the midst of building a tree-house and my main support joists are 2 x 6's. The ability to make straight-cuts through 190mm would have been nice.
I've looked a smaller saw - the 1100W, 184 mm blade only costs $78 on these run-outs, but that's too limited width-wise, something less than 120mm. The alternative is a 254mm sliding saw which would go to 300mm width cut, but then i'm looking at $299.

I think most of my DIY construction would be with timber no more than "something" X 6 inch.. so the capacity of the non-sliding 12 inch blade saw would seem to have it covered.

All that said, a 10 inch table saw would do all that and more.... so "paralysis by analysis" has set-in and I've bought neither..LOL!! I'm doing it with my old 7 1/4 inch circular saw and a sliding bevel for the angles.

As they say, your mileage may vary.............

    Cheers,
    Geoff

Can anyone recommend a smaller mitre saw. Say cost of about $100. There is a lot to chose from.
