    Default GMC Warranty Arrangements

I know there are other posts regarding the change in arrangements made by GMC... But I thouhgt I'd drop a quick note to let you know my recent experience.

I went to return my 3rd framing gun at bunnings recemtly and was informed of the new policy...The nice people at bunnings let me use their phone and fax to log the service request. I was told by GMC that I would have my new my new gun in under 7 days....well guess what, it seems that after chasing them up on day 8.... I get this response, yes fully processed, plenty of guns available so you should have that by next Friday or maybe the Friday after that...so from a 7 day turn around - which was a pain in the middle of a project ends up being 21 days....

    chance of buying GMC again.....

    From consumer affairs Vic.

When am I entitled to a refund?
Under the law, you are entitled to a refund, exchange or repair if something you bought:
    • is faulty or defective and you were not aware of it
    • does not do the job you were led to believe it would do
    • does not match a sample you were shown or
    • was not as described on the box or in an advertisement

Whether bunnings or gmc or whatever have new / old / modern / outdated / extra / final policy on returns they still have to abide by consumer fairs law.
In other words if bunnings/gmc have prevented you from completing your project by flouting consumer affairs law I am pretty sure you would be able to gain recompense for your inconvenience as well as a new WORKING nail gun. They are not entitled to expect that you should, after already returning two inferior guns, wait 21 days + for a 4th which will be the same. I would suggest if you walked into bunnings the first time waving the printout off the CA website saying under what circumstances you are able to receive a refund you would have got one first up. I had an experience at the Ryobi Clearance center in Ringwood with a substandard SCMS and i walked in asking for refund nd they said no you have to take a replacement or product to the value of. I pulled out the printout off the CA websiet and I got an imediate cash refund especially when I mentioned that action against them would be immediate if they didnt comply. This new refund policy fo GMC is only for people who are not prepared to stand up for their rights. You have to be fair dinkum and the tool has to demonstrably a piece of crap.

Doesn't GMC offer 30 day satisfaction guarantee and a 2 year replacement warranty?. I thought this was written in front of their boxes. I know Ive just recently returned a faulty cordless drill and was promptly offered either a refund, exchange or replacement even thought the drill was over a year old. Ended up getting a new makita and paying for the difference

Minvec - too many Smart-A#$es were using the 30 return as a form of free 'rental' - buy the tool, use it & return within 30 days for a full refund. They have now stuffed it up for everyone. I note that it is not just GMC - when I went to K-Mart the other day there was a huge queue of housewives with opened Xmas tree boxes and opened bag of decorations, all demanding a refund. I've also seen similar things in DJ's - people buying garden tables & chairs, even BBQ's - usually on the 'never-never' - then bringing them back for a refund after the garden party is over - didn't even clean the BBQ

However the 'no refund under warranty repair' is a no-no in most (all?) under the various consumer protection laws - I suspect a degree of wilful misinformation on Bunnings part, as they don't have to handle a bunch of dud tools & pay shipping back to GMC.

Apple computer is also trying the same deal, and they are making the retailers bear the cost of defective units - I don't know what threats they are using to keep the dealers line, but its very dodgy & I'd like to see someone with deep pockets give one of these companies a good leqal serve as a warning to all the others.

it was gmc not bunnings that push new system in as for the 30 day return the new boxes not have that on them ,if it is under 14 days bunning will still exchange ,all the good names mac dewalt, etc are all repaires not exchange after 14 days some only 1 day big names will exchange
gmc has done a lot for the poor man now he can afford power tools

Hmmm.. If thats the case, I am with spartan. One of the pros of GMC was the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. With out this, I will probably folk out more money for a better brand.

Yep, GMC is not an option any more for me.

I just waited well over 2 months for a replacement angle grinder.

Think I made around 5 calls and was given the good old "It's on back order" reponse a few times. Every bloody bunnings in the state had stock but they weren't able to help.
