Default Hitachi F20A planer clean up and use as jointer

Looking for help with manual as I can't seem to find one of the Internet.

I bought this with a load of other electrical tools. For $20 the lot I thought it was a steal. Reality is they had been stored somewhere that a million ants could use them as their home. There has been a lot of air blasts and electrical cleaner user to clean them out. Now I won't to start the mechanical clean. Any suggestions or warning? Thank you for any advice offered.

My intention is to set it up as a small jointer. I already have Festool planer for hand use.

I'd photograph every step of the disassembly, to assist in the reverse. The file number and date can keep them in sequence, but easier to identify with a digital timer in the view. I'd leave the blades as the final step, if ever.

Best of luck . It sounds like a nice project.

    Cheers,
    Joe

It took a lot and the soles aren't the greatest as they have plenty of pitted holes. Glad I did strip and clean as it had eggs and some sort of ants nest inside. Gave the commutator a gentle clean as well. Haven't touched the blades yet but they need serious work or replacing. This one will definitely just be used in a jig as a jointer. Thanks fore the tip on photographing and I have included key photo's. There was a lot of cleaning and used 320 grit wet and dry paper. I will have to add a decent smooth surface when it is in the jig.

    Hi John,
Thanks for the offer but after dismantling I realised there is only one thing to adjust. The future maintenance will be beyond what a manual would provide. I have seen another for $10 so may buy it as I agree with you it has a nice feel when using

I had one of these. Sharpening and adjusting the blades to cut evenly was a PITA.
Junked it and bought a Makita planer with replaceable blades - made life much easier.
