Jonsered CS2040 advice please
Hi
Before I buy another cheapy chainsaw, thought I'd give one last look at an old Jonsered I have.
This was given to me some time ago with a dead HT coil unit. Got a 2nd hand one ex USA and it would then start but wouldn't idle.
Would rev out nicely when the throttle was opened and appears to have lo9ts of compression.
My son, whose a trainee mechanic decided to tune it for me and now it doesn't start at all. The carbi adjustments are cocked up.
So, question is- Is the Jonsered CS2040 worth fixing up?
If so, can anyone advise me on the procedure to recover totally stuffed up carbi tweaks. All he adjusted where the two screws on the side of the carbi, H+L I think.
Has a 16" bar but not sure of the motor size
Any help appreciated

It may be worth taking it to a 2stroke mech, and get a quote to tune it, these Carbies are notoriously fickle. .
H&L refer to hi-speed & low speed you could try the following,
1 turn the lowspeed fully in , then back out 2 1/2 turns,
2, try starting , if you can start, but does not idle , turn out another 1/2 to 1 turn , and repeat,
2.1 If makes it worse reverse by 1/2 a turn at a time, this should put you in the ball park.
3Hi speed repeat as for the Lo speed , until you can get full rev's .
This is how we used to do it for line trimmers , and they use similar carbies.

Jeff - not sure about those carby screw adjustments. Generally chainsaw carb settings are set at 1 turn out for L and H and they run ok to start and rev like that. Unless the 2040 is an exception that is and I've just made a fool of myself...
Then they need fine tuning (by ear or tach) to get the full potential though. It's not hard, and if you're interested or are even vaguely mechanically adept I can give you tuning instructions. Or otherwise take it to a chainsaw shop for a tune, they shouldn't charge much at all. But they may tell you it has other problems...
As for spending money it, depends what's wrong. If it's just a tune, sure is worth it. If it needs new crank seals or a new piston and cylinder possibly not. Having said that you'll need to spend maybe $500 to replace it with a saw of equal quality - Jonsereds of that age are a rebadged Husqvarna and are good saws. I think it's worth spending more than $100 on assuming it's got a usable bar and chain
