Look what the ATO brought me!
Sometimes if you are a good little woodrecker, the dreaded nasty TAX man gives you some pancakes back to play with. So, I visited the LV website and ordered:
1 LV LA Block Plane,
2 MkII Honeing guide &
3 a book Traditional Woodworking Techniques.
As well as I had the opportunity to drop into The Woodworks at Meadowbank and brought Sharpening, by Thomas Lie Neilsen and a 4mm Stubai chisel.
At both places I received excellent customer service, with LV being able to handle an addition to the order. Rob Lee should be proud of his people: Heather-Ann Graham & Greg Hammill.Pat

the ato didnt buy you anything - you bought it out of your compulsory annual interest free loan to our lovely government. by the time they repaid last years interest free loan to you to buy stuff you should have been able to buy 12 months ago, you are already 3 months into this financial years compulsory interest free loan

i'm about to do the same but was a bit suss about the delivery delay
8-10 weeks ???? it was going to cost a fair bit more to bring the time down to a reasonable level
i've been quoted $180.90 for the LV LA block from a local joint

Hi Scott,
Yes, that's about right, but with Lee Valley, if you choose Express post, as I generally do, then the package gets here in around six working days.
Out of about a dozen or so consigments over the past few months, only one has been stopped by customs, and as the excise/duty was under AU$50 - they don't collect it - the point being that I keep individual orders < CAN$360 or thereabouts - depending on the forex rate at the time.
Their service is 2nd to none (apart, perhaps, from L.N.!)
Cheers!

Scott, you are talking about the sea mail route, I used the airmail 6-10 days.
Doug, as my refund equates to approx $7 per week, I much prefer the gross payment. Horses for courses.Pat

I like Lee Valley, they just sent me a new calendar.

About $145, plus $25-30 postage.
Yer in front, but not by much. I'd prolly go local just because it's close enough to support the local guy without being stung in the hip pocket too much.
Here, well the local dealer wants 18,000 yen or so, and I landed mine here for about 13,500, so I saved about $50. Hence, I ordered direct from LV.
I didn't get any calendars, how do you wangle one of them. I shouldn't be that far down the list, should I?

The ATO bought you this stuff???? But its your money...your money that youve given to the ATO as an interest free loan for up to a year.

The TAX man is paying off 1/4 of my credit card, with his help hopefully I can pay alot of the rest of it off so I can then go back to Hare and Forbes for a 200mm Jointer and Thicknesser early in the new year.

Lola,
One has to be a bit "constructive" in putting together a package that 1) is under CA$360, and 2) that doesn't weigh more than about 5Kg. On that basis, the freight costs is spread across the consignment.
With the various goods that I have ordered from L.N. and L.V. over the past several months, I recon that I've saved over AU$1000
Cheers!
