Magnetic Bit Holders
I want to buy one of these sets http://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-31...leeve_p6360231
Actually I don't really want to buy the whole set but I can't buy the magnetic bit holder in it outside the set. So I fronted up to bunnings with credit card in hand and was told that they did not stock them because they were sold only as a special promotion for Father's day, Xmas etc and they could not order them in either. The reason I wanted one was that they have a ring rare earth magnet that holds the screw far more securely than a normal bit holder, Hitachi do a similar thing as well as Bosch and none of them are available in Oz, how surprising. Bunnings last sold them for Father's day so my question is did anyone here buy one and how good is it? For those interested look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHVv19DeUO0CHRIS

Ray, I can't see if it works in the same way. Did you see how the magnetic sleeve slides over the bit in the Dewalt video? The magnet is at the face of the sleeve and contacts the screw head directly and not relying on magnetising the drive bit.

I purchased that identical DeWalt magnetic holder about 4-5 weeks ago now, but part of a smaller set ($15) from Bunnings. The yellow clashes nicely with my Ryobi hypergreen stuff.

I much prefer these bit holders. They do not rely on magnets - never fall out.
I think that Bunnings sell them.

Derek, it is not the bit holder but the way the magnet holds the screw to the bit, totally different to the conventional magnetic holder. MS, is it any good or am I barking up the wrong gum tree?

Bunnings stores will be receiving limited stock in the next two to three weeks I was told. They won't take orders and will not reserve any or ring customers to let them know or at least the one at Sutherland won't.

Chris
I was at Bunnings today and they had an Irwin version - just the magnetic screw section. I bought it ... just because ... it was only about $3.
My thought is that this only works with steel screws, so it really for overhead-type carpentry work, not for setting brass screws in hinges.

Hi, did you manage to find your screw retaining bit holder? If not Wera makes very nice bit holder called the Ringmagnet Rapidator or Wera 887. Its not cheap at around $28 but quality holder. I used various Wera bit holders for many years they work very well. Unfortunately, their soft screwdriver handles seems to wear quickly.
The Urrrghwin Lock-n-load quick change adapter(chrome & loose falling off rubber blue band) is a big fail the mechanism isnt smooth and it gets stuck. Not so quick change anymore, avoid if possible. I hate them.

I got one from Bunnies during the Xmas sales. It is way stronger than any other I have used.
