    Default Makita 18V LI drill

    Hi,
I have seen a Makita 18V LI drill model # BHP453SHE for $398 at the big B. I can find details of this one on websites of tool shops in other countries, but the Makita Aus website does not refer to this model but rather the BDF451RFE also 18V. The latter has a higher rpm and the settings do differ from what I can see on the pics. This model also has a much higher price tag of about $650.
Does any one have any experience of the model offered by the big B?
Is this just another cheaper tool rebranded for the big B?

Hi Les I bought a Makita 18v Li cordless drill from Bunnies model BDF 452 its not a hammer drill came with 2 batteries and charger. I had a ryobi for a few years and was looking for a replacement as the batteries were stuffed and the chuck was slipping. Anyway I bought the Makita, what a great drill it is. Lithium batteries make the drill very light and it feels great in the hand. I love it, when I was at bunnies late last year the hammer version which I beleive is the one you are looking at was sold out so I purchased the other model which from memory was about $370.00.

    Cheers Jerry

    Hi,

The 18v makita drill (BHP452SHE) you're looking at in bunnings is a genuine makita. it's cheaper because it has only two speeds and a less powerful motor and the batteries are only 1.5 ah compared to 3 ah for the more expensive drill, the BDF451RFE is the top of the line pro drill, you get what you pay for. If you look on the just tools website you can see the comparison.
If it goes against the grain, it's being rubbed the wrong way!

Thanks for the info guys. I guess yer gets what yer pay for. The hammer action is not what I need. I have dedicated drills for this. What I am looking for is a good WW drill. At $725 for the BDF451RFE, I may consider the festool 18V Li drill.
    Regards
    Les
