McMillan Compressor query
Hi all,
Looking to purchase a second hand McMillan (sp?) air compressor and would welcome some opinions of the brand. Model is a MC537 Titan 850. 3 phase, 10 amp motor. Bloke reckons its rated at 43cfm but has only been told that from previous owner. Anyone know how to ascertain cfm and free air delivery for this compressor?
Also, what type of oil can I use with this compressor?
TIA

43 cfm sounds a bit much. Try and look at the HP or Kw power of the motor and that should give you a good indication of the CFM. I think that Trade Tools in QLD use a 5 KW motor for 35 cfm. A 5.5 Honda petrol can run a 20 cfm, and so on. McMillan's a good brand. You can buy compressor pump oil in Super Cheap Auto and Repco and all of those places.

McMillan
McMillan used to make models with the following specs:
MCS27 - 4KW and 27CFM
MCS37 - 5.5KW and 37CFM
MCS52 - 7.5KW and 52CFM
MCS 65 - 11KW and 65CFM
All of these were three phase 415v
All had three cylinders except the MCS37 which had 2 cylinders.
Hope this helps

Thanks Scribbly,
The sticker on the unit was pretty scuffed so it was probably MCS37 not MC537. Definitely 2 cylinder but only 5kw so maybe a replacement motor.

Hi Bloggsy,
I bought a smaller McMillan in 1995 and it is still powering along. I kept the sales brochure from then, and the specs I quoted were from it.
I'm not sure what McMillan are doing at the moment, but they are not marketed in my home town anymore.
This crowd lists them, but you'll have to contact them for the info that you need:

I think highly of mine, I hope that you have some luck with your search.

McMillan compressors were sold by Ingersoll-Rand's for many years. Now the brand name is registered by Baker Bros in Melbourne.
649-651 Glenhuntly Road, Caulfield South, Victoria 3162
They keep parts for McMillan compressors.
Ask to speak to Andrew,Guy or Simon Baker.
Hope this will help
