Milwaukee M12 IR 3/8" Cordless Ratchet Electronic Whining Noise
Hi All,
Just bought myself one of these M12 Milwaukee Cordless Ratchets and have noticed it makes an irritating electronic whining noise from the switch area when the trigger is initially depressed - does anyone know if this is normal or have I got a dud.
I have no experience of other tools from their range to compare. For what it's worth, I don't believe this model has a brushless motor.
It works ok but this is annoying the hell out of me and making me wish I hadn't bought the damned thing.
I have looked at online video reviews of the same tool and don't notice the same noise from their units.

This thread also speaks of a high pitched whine although it's the M18 model

Thanks I had seen that article - some say they whine some say not - it does sound electrical in nature and is only audible when the trigger is depressed and motor's not turning or turning at low revs.
Any one else got one of these ratchets to directly compare with?

Take a fully charged battery with you to the place of purchase and try it in of of their display tools to see if the whine is noticeable. If it is still under warranty, you can make an informed decision from there.

Why bother comparing it with other tools? It should not whine. Get it replaced asap.
cheers

Thanks for your replies - I haven't had time to go back with it but do believe it may be an issue in relation to driving of the mosfets used in switching the motor speed. Apparently mosfets are used in brushed motors too.
