I suspect that you would spend a lot of time lining the lasers up to the drill centre, particularly if you need to adjust the table height frequently. There are others that mount in the chuck like a bit and project vertcally down. For my money, I'd go that way as I prefer to use fences and stops for repetitive drilling. That way, you run the laser bit to set up, swap to drill bit and drill to your hearts content. Use a small paintbrush to clear swarf / dust away so it doesn't build up deflect work from fence or stop and affect accuracy

I quite ofter make up a permanent metal jig with pilot holes for all holes in a project, label it and keep it. Mount a pilot drill in the chuck, pass the drill into the jig hole (not rotating) and set fences and stops of the jig that way. Great way to be able to set up so that parts produced in bulk years apart are interchangable.

That's what I was thinking, how it would perform in the event of having to change the drill press table height constantly for some projects. Great idea though.

you still need to mark where the hole needs to be. why not just pull the drill down and get it right then drill the whole. i really don't see a need for laser lines on any tool.

I have this particular laser on my drill press. I bought it when they were first released over 1 year ago. The alignment procedure allows for any adjustment to table height or position. That is, it doesn't go out of alignment with changes in table height. It works very well, especially when lining up pen blanks for centre drilling. The only downside is that it doesn't have an auto-off so if you forget to turn it off your 9V battery will be dead the next day. I solved this by using re-chargeable 9V batteries (and trying to remember to turn it off after use). It is worth every cent!

Got one and set it up last week, took about 15 mins (probably less if I read the instructions).

The laser fires straight down from the drill press post so swinging the table or adjusting the height doesnt seem to matter.

I am in the process of building a new laundry and kitchen , the time it has saved me on marking and drilling all the euro hinges has already more the paid for it...
