    Default Ozito mortiser?

    Dear all,

While browsing through the local Bunnies, I came across an interesting product which was an Ozito mortising attachment which attaches to a drill press. It sells for around $60. I asked the staff there and they didn't even know it existed so I couldn't get any feedback. Obviously it's quite a bit cheaper than similar products and I was wondering whether anyone had dared to buy this product or could you give me your informed opinion. I've had some bad experiences with Ozito but the thought of producing a nice mortise and tenon joint could be enough to make me part with the money.

We can't keep on meeting like this!

I had a similar, although nearly twice the price, item on order from Timbecon. Gave up after 2 weeks and cancelled order.

Did some research, before the abortive attempt to wrest product from Timbecon, and apparently it should only be used occasionally, or you will bugger the mechanism that drops the chuck on the drill press. I also would imagine that the efficiency derives from scary sharp edges on the mortice chisel. If the steel's crap, edges can't be ground, won't hold, then its a pretty woeful item.

It's interesting tho. Does it have a fence? I'm due weekly pilgrimage to Bumblings tonight so will see if my local has one.

No experience with Ozito apart from 2 x 12v drills ex KMart, used very occasionally, to save a walk to the good ones. Cost $8.50 and represent outstanding value.

    Hi,

    Is it this one?

    http://www.ozito.com.au/productinfo....odid=ACMCK-001#

I might pop down and have a look too. For those dollars it might be okay for the occassional wood hacker like me.

    Cheers.

Guys, this looks horribly and suspiciously like the one I had on order.....

Different colours but otherwise!!! Even same carry box.

If I painted it orange, that would obviously double the price. This orange paint must be something. I'm off to buy another toy.

    To I wanna shed,

Yes that's the one in all its Ozito packaging.

By the way, I have a shed that you can have, read under Buy, Swap and Sell. Best thing about it is it's free.

I dare say they all come from the same factory in China.
Anyway, consensus is 50/50 on these. Some use them, others dont.
The re-occuring theme however among all users is that they are a P.I.T.A to attach and remove every time you want to make a mortise (or use your drill press regularly again).
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

    Tiger,

I suggest that you do not buy a cheap morticing attachment, which will just cause you endless angst. Build a precision micro-adjustable morticing jig instead. See
    http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ad.php?t=13548

It may take you a weekend to finish it , but you will find it is well worth the effort.

    Rocker,

Does your jig also come with a 3 year replacement warranty?

I understand where you're coming from and I will dig out issue 103 of the Australian woodworker and check out your jig.

If anyone in Sydney wants a close relative for $30 let me know. PM for contact details. Mine was from Hare and Forbes and includes three chisels (I think, I'd have to check).

It will save me putting it on ebay.
