Would someone tell me what the quill on a drill press does please and is it better for a small one or larger.

I've always been told that size doesn't matter.

The larger the quill the more solid and sturdy the drill, and generally the more solid overal construction it will probably have - which will always be a pluss when using it. There are a lot of cheap drill presses on the market. Go for a quality drill like and engineering grade drill over the cheap imported from china type.
While I can get by with the drill press I inherited (made in china type) its nothing compared to theheavy duty drill presses like I used to use in the trade (fitting and machining). Or maybe just go out and get one of those big radial drills that stand about 12 foot high now thats a drill.
