I had a slightly different experience with QLD sharpeners. I took a bunch of saw blades over to them (this was a few years back) and they made a mess of some of them. For example, I have/had an expensive DML branded blade from the US which has close grained microcarbide, huge teeth and a beautiful cut (it WAS my favourite blade). They butchered it. Took off half the cabride, changed the rake and top angle of the teeth. It now cuts miserably. I use it only for the roughest break down of timber.
I had a fight with them at the time (they also tried to change the prices of some of their quotes, and took several days longer than they said they would)...
Suffice to say that I have never been back. Sorry for your experienceWarm Regards, Luckyduck

Iron bark:
To tell you the truth, I have done so little woodworking lately that I haven't needed to have anything sharpened for a while. That said, most things in my shop are dull at the moment and its coming round to sharpening time.
A friend of my lives near Redland Bay and just used A1 Mobile Sharpening the other day for his table saw blades. The "old fella" did an excellent job, on the spot, at my friends house and evidently prices were good.
I think I might give him a go next time round.
While we're on the subject of recommendations, does anyone have good sharpening experiences in Brisbane? TahWarm Regards, Luckyduck

Iron Bark,
Try Peacocks or Brisbane Saw Service.
Personally I don't send anything to them anymore as we have a bloke set up shop here in Toowoomba that will sharpen anything and he really does give a #### about your business!Have a nice day - Cheers

Spent a couple of hours to sharpen and polish 6 blades today. If you do it regularly then it is not too bad.

Had a chat to the old boy today about all of this (for the record he owns a small wood machining factory).
My first question was if he knew of QLD Saw & Sharpening. He grinned and said hope you didn't send anything there! He has dealt with them in the past and was very disappointed with the results.
His recommendation for sharpening in Brisbane is Lueco. Apparently they are offering a sharpening service now. Sorry I don't have any contact details at the moment but I am sure that a quick search in the Yellow pages will reveal all.Have a nice day - Cheers

Not being a spelling nazi, but I'm pretty sure it's spelled "Leuco". Might make it easier to find them.

Wood Butcher - Got my thicknesser blades back today after the same company's second attempt - put them face to face and there is still a gap of about 1mm between them in the middle - I pointed this out to the rep who collects and delivers for them on the Sunshine Coast and his answer was - the error you are seeing is actually half when the blades are in use - true I suppose but in my mind with the precision machines available today, IT JUST AINT GOOD ENOUGH - they won't be seeing my blades again - I will check out Leuco after the long weekend
Mick, you were right about the spelling

Interesting comment from the sales rep Ned sounds like a well practised excuse to me. You are right about the machines though, they should easily be able to grind in a dead straight line.
Have a nice day - Cheers

When I recently changed my thicknesser and jointer blades, I did notice a slight difference in the centre of 1 or 2 of them. I don't have any equipment fine enough to measure it, but there was a slight dip.
Maybe the problem has got to do with the operator of the grinder. It probably comes from doing things too fast, trying to make money, time is money etc.I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Leuco
18 million worth of machines in our shed, and guess who supplies our cutters
Have excellent advice, the rep (whom from memory is "Tony") is a very knowledgeable Bloke.Bruce C.
catchy catchphrase needed here, apply in writing to the above .

Bruce.
I will not have Leuco in our place.
They are a bunch of ripoff merchants.
All our TCT knives come from Weinig or ATS.
TCT Saws go to Sawtec in Coffs.
My thicknesser blades get done by Fruitbat on our flat knife Auto wet grinder.
Don't ya love having all the go fast gear at your finger tips?Hooroo.
Regards, Trevor
