Default Do NOT purchase batteries from this company!

In January I purchased a Mi-Nh battery for a 12v Panasonic cordless drill. I had decided to get this in replacement of Ni-Cds, which were no longer holding a charge.

I checked on line and was reassured (by the advertising) that Laptop Batteries, Adapters Online Shopping With AU Free Shipping - AussieBatt.com were based in Australia. The cost of the battery was $70, cheap enough, so I ordered it.

It was due in about 7 working days. Two weeks later I contacted them as it had not been delivered. Apparently they lost the order or had forgotten. They promised 5 days. Two weeks later I put in a request via Paypal to check why the item had not been delivered. This galvanised the company into action, and 5 days later I received a battery. But it was the wrong battery (a Ni-Cd of 2000 Ah, where I had purchased a Mi-Nh of 3000 Ah). I contacted the company and sent them photos of the original receipt plus a photo of the battery sent. They ignored this, so a week later I escalated the Paypal claim.

Today I hear from Paypal that they turned down my claim "as the Seller delivered". I cannot get them to understand that the wrong item was delivered!

Live and learn. So I am just warning you all to avoid this company. It seems that they are actually based in China (so I am just one of the thousands they deal with) and create the impression that they are based in Oz. They may also go under a few different names.

I ordered two Mi-Nh batteries via Amazon, and they were $45 each! Should have gone there first!

    Regards from Perth

Yes Derek, I've noticed this recently on other fronts too. Chinese companies making like they are local, even putting in suburbs like Hoppers Crossing instead of just Melbourne, to seem more genuine.

Sigh, more and more garbage to deal with on the net

I reported a similar company to eBay for this exact along with that the offered a full refund for a positive review rather than the negative one I gave them....
eBay staff were very good and took emit action.

There’s also a company selling, supposedly out of Darwin, CNC stepper controllers snd other electronics. Controllers are cheap, cheap copies. When Paypal found in my favour, I had to ship them back to China! I argued I bought them, supposedly from Darwin but they still insisted they sent back to China. Freight exceeded the cost of the items so I still have them.

If they were faulty in some way the return shipping should be on the seller. You should have just notified them that they were ready to collect at your place.

On the other hand I have also bought from "Darwin" and delivery was faster than from Melbourne even though both came via Aust Post.

I hate using Paypal; the protection is always heavily biased towards the seller. The Escrow system that Alibaba use is the exact opposite; an unscrupulous buyer can rob others blind.

Often these companies do have a "presence" in Australia but ship direct from an overseas factory. I purchase my contact lenses from an Australian company... who ships them to me directly from Singapore.

interesting , I have found the opposite experience
Alibaba were very slow and poor to deal with in a dispute . It took 6 months to get my money back on the other hand PayPal were quite prompt dealing with the seller when they sent a different item to what was listed
Have never used Alibaba again as a result

    .
Unfortunately that was the conditions Paypal agreed to with the seller to get me my money back.

Australia Post still does "sea mail"; if so that used to be heaps cheaper but took forever to get to the overseas country....

Thank you for the heads up as I have been considering purchasing NiMh's for my Makita drill. This seller attracted my attention, however my suspicions have been piqued by the way they advertise. Just doesn't give me any confidence and your experience has confirmed that. Interestingly your link above was blocked by McAfee as a "risky connection."

I have just had further contact from Paypal, who have re-opened the case, since it is now one of the incorrect item being sent. The Seller is offering to refund $10 to make this go away (which means I keep a Ni-Cd battery, which I did not want, and which has a low Ah - 2000 vs 3000 - which I did not want). My first instinct is to tell him to take a flying leap, but I pause because Paypal will insist I send the incorrect battery back, which is a hassle - worth less than my time. Basically, I now just want my money back as I have purchased 2 Ni-Mh batteries (and a new charger for them).

I had a very similar thing happen to me for several thousand dollars worth of gear for another hobby of mine. PayPal agreed seller was in the wrong but to get the refund I would have to send it back. It would have been over $500 in transport alone.

I then got I to contact with my cc whilst the PayPal dispute was still opened and they issued refund. Will you need to keep a copy of all the contact you have had with the seller as they will want to see that you have tried to resolve it already.

The seller will have an opportunity to dispute the refund but as long as you rebut their dispute with proof of their wrong doing you will win the case. This is with mastercard, apparently Visa is similar and Amex even easier for the buyer.

I now always pay for things with cc, and if I have money in my PayPal acc I transfer it out and keep it at $0

So if you used cc via paypal then it's worth a shot.

I wrote back to the Seller:

Paypal have informed me that you are offering a $10 refund on the incorrect battery you sent me (attachment #1).

I wrote to you on the 28th February to state that the battery you sent was incorrect. I have attached copy of this email below (attachment #2).

The battery you are offering is a 12v Ni-Cd with 2000Ah. This cost about $60. The battery I ordered was a 12v Ni-Mh with 3000AH. That cost $70. So essentially you are asking me to purchase the cheaper battery which I do not want. You are, in fact, not offering anything at all - just selling me the cheaper battery for the retail price.

I do not want the Ni-Cd battery. I would prefer my money back. Because PayPal initially informed me that they had found the case in your favour (before reversing this decision), I went out and purchased 2 Ni-Mh batteries on Amazon. They were $48 each. See Attachment #3.

I am happy to send the battery back to you - at your cost.

The alternative, which is to my wasting my own time, and some costs to you, is that you refund me $50 (in other words, the battery then cost me $20).

A copy of this letter is being sent to PayPal.

The original sale receipt is attached below (Attachment #4)

Occasionally I receive a wrong item when buying through eBay. When raised as a dispute, with photos, etc., the decision has always gone in my favour.

    But recently I have started to get the reduced cash back offer. It must work for them some times. I wonder if it may also be a delaying tactic to run down the dispute clock and also your feelings about being dudded... : ~}

Keep at them Derrick. A win for you will be a win for all of us punters!
