Default Good quality air tool oil

Hi, the oil that came with my Porter cable bradder is now empty. What is a good air tool oil? Is the Ozito air tool oil at the big green shed any good? Seems quite cheap. Just don't want to mess up a reasonable quality tool.

Well, I did find my answer after consulting with Dr. google. It is not so straight forward as many of the oils state it can be used for most air tools, although it never states nail guns. Seems one actually needs nail gun oil - viscosity of 68 @40 deg C. (whatever that means) vs air tool or pneumatic tool oils which has a viscosity of 32 @40deg. Looks like I will need some Jamec PEM nail gun Oil. Only one retailer in Perth out of stock . The impulse nailers (gas type) use a different lubricant it seems.

Honestly, unless your tools are doing 3 shifts, 7 days a week, any air tool oil or light machine oil is going to be just fine. You could probably even get away with a thin cooking oil if you absolutely had to.

I have heard of automatic transmission fluid being used for air tools, have not used this myself though.

Brief summary of airtool oil requirements from Dr. Google

Special blends of highly refined base oils with extreme pressure additives and special additives to entrance adhesion, anti-rust and an emulsifier to absorb moisture. The oilis designed for the lubrication of air - operated tools such as jack-hammers, pavement breakers, air-compressors, etc.

I have used gulf Western air tool oil for my rattle gun. A couple of drops every now and then never had an issue.

Whal clipper oil or Singer light machine oil is fine. 3 drops in the gun at the beginning and end of each session. I normally buy it from woolworths, but it seems they dont have it on their site at the moment .... I need another!

Thanks for posting this - I was watching this thread myself as I will eventually need to get some oil for my air nailer myself.

I didn't know sewing machine oil would work!

I'll give everyone a quick tip - I came across this when Mrs Midnight needed a new sewing machine, and one was included in hers: https://houseofcloth.com.au/products...vative-oil-pen

That pen is *super* handy for near everything where you need a tiny drop(s) of oil. Yes, it's expensive, but sometimes - depending on what you're doing, accuracy and no spill is important. Mine has lasted for donkey's ages, because wherever you need "normal" amounts, you use it out of a bigger pack/can/bottle.

    Default syringe?

    Perhaps a 1mm syringe?

SWMBO looks after neo-kittens and feeds them meds orally with one. Just remove the needle and the plug is quite pointy. They are super easy to dispense fine amounts of goo.

From the chemist they are about 30 cents each.

I have and use the Ozito stuff, I am not a big user but one of my brothers is as he uses various air tools including brad guns in his upholstery business. As for the difference between different air tools, he uses one lubricant for everything. He uses them constantly and with three people using these tools they get used all of the time.

He uses air oil for everything.

Picture of my bottle of Ozito Air oil which complies with DIN 51506 standard.

Seems I might be quite wrong about using singer machine oil in air tools. Best to discard/ignore my "wisdom"!

This article seems quite reasonable to me: https://www.hunker.com/13415287/what...-oil-motor-oil

Interestingly I've never had a problem, but that doesn't mean that I wont, or haven't somehow dodged a bullet....

That article is comparing the oil used in air compressors with engine oil. The oil that we are interested in is the oil used is air tools.

Well, after calling a few air tool retailers in Perth, the consensus seems to be that any air tool/pneumatic tool oil is just fine. Just as an aside, some years back I purchased on of those small glue bots. This works really well for oil dispensing one drop at a time. Just cut a small tip off from the nozzle.
