Ah generally means Amp Hour. It is a gauge on how long the battety will last. Going to a 2 or 3 AH just means it should last longer between charges.

The 2 and 3 Ah batteries are likely to be slightly larger (to hold the extra charge), but will fit.

I've had a bad experience with a Panasonic drill when trying to do something similar, both 9.6 volt batteries. The battery was fine with the drill, but the charger wouldn't charge it! I'd be looking for a return guarantee from the seller if I was heading down this track again.

I don't have a drill number to go by but Amazon have Dewalt 12v 1.3ah batteries and they ship to Australia.

Id say your charger likely would be fine for a larger battery.

I think my dewalt charger wilk do a range of batteries voltage and the AH does not make a difference.

Even if your charger only does 12v it is highly unlikely to have an issue charging a larger battery if it is the same fit.

I come from over 25 years of trade use of a vatiety of tools, batteries and chargers.

I have replaced several Panasonic 12v batteries. No problems. Drill now 20 years old and still going strong!

I have done it with a makita. If the voltage is the same and the battery fits the charger then all should be well. As has been said more amp hours just means the battery lasts longer between charges. I got my batteries on ebay and the blurb had a list of model numbers the batteries would suit. That was a couple of years ago and I raised a similar thread on here asking the same questions. It does pay to check first and be sure.

I checked out amazon as suggested by Lappa, but couldn't find matching numbers.
EBay though had some sellers in Australia with matching numbers.
Have decided to try one form here.
With all your advice it sounds ok.
Will let you all know how it goes.

Be aware of the different types of batteries, ie NiCd, NmH, or Li. Some types tend not to be compatable, and others are. (an older drill may not accept Lithium, for example). also, your existing charger may not charge it.

Happy to report batteries arrived today.
Sent Monday, arrived tuesday. good stuff
Put one in the drill proper fit and had some charge already.
Put it in the charger and fully charged in an hour as stated.
Same with the second one.

So nice to have the drill on board again.
